From May, Budapest is giving the Pest lower embankment back to people on foot, on bikes, and anyone chasing a slow afternoon by the river. This year the Jane Haining Embankment (rakpart) isn’t going solo: the József Antall Embankment (rakpart) is joining in with a much bigger slate of happenings than before. With cars out of the picture, the whole stretch turns into a pedestrian-friendly riverside where you can stroll, ride, lounge, and actually hear the water.
Two Shores, More Action
The season opens in sync with the road closures, and the riverside hangouts are diving in. Viadukt Bar and DUNYI kick things off on May 1 with a proper launch. Glencz, ZSÉ, and Dan Pinto bring the tunes, while the Bladerunnaz crew cranks the tempo and fills the Danube (Duna) side with bass and bodies. Expect daytime beats, sunset views, and zero entry fees—every event is free.
Walk, Ride, Stay
Pack a bike lock, a blanket, and some curiosity. The river’s back—and it’s yours.
