Budapest’s City Park (Városliget) is getting a creative jolt as the Secret Market design fair returns to the Széchenyi Thermal Bath’s Marble Hall on November 8, 2025. It’s the next chapter in a series of design events where contemporary style, tradition, and a bit of mystery collide, all inside a venue the public rarely gets to enter. Entry is free, and the vibe is personal: meet designers face-to-face, hear the stories behind their pieces, and take home souvenirs that actually mean something.
Dates, Place, Atmosphere
The 2025 Secret Market dates in Budapest: November 8, December 6, and December 13. Location: 1146 Budapest, Állatkerti körút 9–11, in the landmark Széchenyi Thermal Bath’s Marble Hall. The fair runs on Saturday, November 8, from 10:00 to 18:00. The venue itself is a showstopper: the Marble Hall is usually off-limits, turning each event into a one-day-only cultural peek behind the curtain. Expect an elevated, intimate atmosphere in the heart of the city, wrapped in the bath’s historic grandeur.
Past Success, Big Momentum
Secret Market debuted in September in the Marble Hall and followed up with a sold-out October edition featuring 50 exhibitors and roughly 1,500 visitors, including a strong international crowd hungry for Hungarian design. Organizers Anikó Mengyán and Judit Tóth say they’re proud the October event joined the official program of Budapest Design Week. The market has quickly become a meeting point for designers and buyers who want a closer, more human experience.
What to Expect
Designers from Hungary and abroad bring jewelry, clothing, bags, natural cosmetics, ceramics, woven pieces, and unique objects tied to bath culture. The focus: high-quality, small-batch goods you won’t find in chain stores. Visitors can shop, chat with creators, and join workshops where designers share skills and processes. As the organizers put it, the Secret Market is about more than buying—it’s a community experience where every object carries the maker’s story.
Why It Matters
The mission is clear: get the work of Hungarian designers into the hands of locals and Budapest’s global visitors alike. For travelers, it’s a chance to pick up distinctive, premium souvenirs; for locals, it’s a deep dive into the city’s creative engine. Pair the fair with a stroll in City Park (Városliget), a visit to the Zoo, or a soak in the thermal baths.
