On September 14, Budapest’s City Hall Park (Városháza Park) turns into a simmering epicenter for Sólet Festival (Sóletfesztivál), the biggest event kicking off the Week of Synagogues. Now in its ninth year, this themed food festival showcases thousands of portions of sólet, the beloved Jewish stew of slow-cooked beans, barley, and smoked meat—never quite the same, never boring. Traditionally, sólet is prepared for Saturday, but here it takes center stage as the ultimate comfort food.
Famous Hosts and Flavors
Local celebrities will be serving up the sólet: rebbetzin and influencer Tzivia Myers, rabbi and influencer Jonatán Megyeri, legendary magician Anikó Ungár, and iconic presenter András Sváby. Expect versions ranging from classic Hungarian and Israeli to Indian and health-conscious “fit” twists. You can eat onsite or take your serving home.
Chilled Vibes, Hot Food
Israeli DJ Lior keeps the atmosphere lively, and the festival is open from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. Tickets are $11–$12 each. And if you get hooked, more Jewish cultural events fill September’s calendar—including kosher wine tastings, synagogue tours, and festive concerts. Organizers reserve the right to change the times or programs.
