Budapest’s Budafok-Tétény district is getting fizzy in 2026. The Törley Sparkling Wine Manufactory and Visitor Center opens its historic cellars and sleek museum spaces to tell a story that stretches back almost a century and a half. This colorful, sometimes bumpy, but ultimately triumphant 140-year journey comes alive through popular tours, tastings, and special programs at the Törley Collection and Visitor Center, located at 1221 Budapest, 22nd District – Budafok-Tétény, Anna utca 5–7. Expect heritage architecture with a modern interior, and a boutique hotel just steps from the event halls to keep the celebration within easy reach.
Key Dates to Toast
Circle June on your calendar. On June 6, 2026 (Saturday), the center anchors its season with curated experiences in the historic cellars and museum. A week later, June 13 brings the Törley Cellar Walk in Budapest, a deep dive into Budafok’s legendary underground world where limestone caverns breathe life into bottles. Alongside these, the Budafok Cellar Ride (Budafoki Pincejárat) connects the dots across local cellars, letting you sip your way through the neighborhood’s vinous heritage.
Warm-Up: May Museum Visits
If you like to beat the crowds, May is your move. The Törley Museum opens for dedicated visit windows from May 18–24, 2026, and again from May 25–31, 2026. These slots are ideal for soaking up the brand’s archives, tools of the craft, vintage bottles, and stories of the pioneers who put Hungarian bubbly on the map—without the weekend rush.
Where to Stay
Inside the complex, a boutique hotel blends a period-perfect exterior with smart, modern interiors. Rooms sit just a few steps from the venues, maximizing comfort for tasting-room-to-pillow transitions. It’s tailored to events, quick access, and guests who want the full on-site experience.
Budafok’s Food and Wine Scene
Budafok is built for lingering. The Borköltők Társasága Cellar Restaurant (Borköltők Társasága Pince Étterem) pairs hearty flavors with comfort in air-conditioned rooms and an outdoor area. It’s accessible, happy to host private events, and offers room rentals and catering for bigger groups. For a time capsule of local hospitality, the early 20th-century “Villatelep-Beszálló Inn” (Villatelep-Beszálló Vendéglő)—built in 1910–1911 by restaurateur Károly Kleofász—once served coachmen who stabled and watered their horses in the yard, evolving into the Kméhling Inn (Kméhling Vendéglő) by 1939 until nationalization.
Wine Pilgrimages, All in One Street
A short hop away, the Záborszky Winery’s Wine City (Borváros) is a rarity in Hungary and even by European standards. Their open-air, skanzen-style Wine Street lines up ten iconic wine regions—Badacsony, Balatonboglár, Eger, Etyek-Buda, Mecsek Foothills (Mecsek-alja), Somló, Sopron, Szekszárd, Tokaj-Hegyalja, and Villány—with region-specific cellar façades to admire. Another dozen famed regions beam in via video, creating a panoramic national tasting tour without leaving the neighborhood.
Local Bites
In the heart of Budafok on Kossuth Lajos Street (Kossuth Lajos utca), a cafeteria-style restaurant lays out soups, stews, freshly grilled mains, and desserts with a home-cooking vibe. Build your own plate from the day’s selection or go with the changing chef’s specials. Craving Mediterranean? Kerkyra Greek Taverna at Campona serves classic recipes—chicken and lamb gyros, souvlaki, roast lamb, moussaka, salads, grilled meats, seafood, and a rotation of sweets.
Heritage Bottles and Big Names
The Törley Champagne Order carries the torch of founder József Törley (1858–1907), guarding tradition and quality while spreading the culture of sparkling-wine enjoyment. György Villa pours specialties from two star regions: crisp whites from Etyek-Buda and full-bodied reds from Villány, showcasing pure fruit character in each grape variety.
Hungaria, the brand with the rallying cry Sparkling, Differently—style, fashion, fizz—has been refining its edge since 1955. More than 60 years of passionate expertise, relentless experimentation, and the adaptation of international technology under the Törley group have made its name synonymous with exclusivity and high quality. It’s a byword for meticulous production and a brand that always seems a step ahead.
From Lake Balaton to Tokaj, Bottled Sunshine
Katona Winery (Katona Borház) bottles summer itself: pure, fruit-forward, zesty wines with finely tuned acidity. Founded in autumn 1996 to revive family tradition, the winery cultivates 45 hectares on Lake Balaton’s southern shore in the Balatonboglár Wine Region, plus 1 hectare in Tokaj-Hegyalja since 2006. Grapes are processed and aged to bottling at their Boglár facility; some fermented lots travel to the Budafok cellar for further treatment and maturation before bottling and sales.
Gather the Crew
For group celebrations, István Tanya Restaurant (István Tanya Vendéglő) has been a Budafok staple since 1999 on cobblestoned Magdolna Street (Magdolna utca). The cozy interior hosts 30 guests, a heated winter garden seats 30 more, and a summer garden shaded by a giant chestnut tree welcomes 40. A 60-seat private hall fits weddings, reunions, company parties, and birthdays; off-site events for 80–150 guests are also on the menu. The kitchen spans Hungarian classics and international favorites to keep every table smiling.
