Budapest’s Schola Gregoriana Budapestinensis keeps the city’s ancient chant alive with weekly Gregorian Masses at the Franciscan Church (Pesti Ferencesek), Ferenciek tere in the 5th District (Belváros-Lipótváros). Formed in 1994 after the creation of the Gregorian Society (Gregorián Társaság), the ensemble was founded to teach, spread, and restore Gregorian chant to the liturgy—and then prove it in practice. Led by Attila Sztankó, they serve every Tuesday from September to June at 6:30 p.m., drawing both regulars and first-timers under the vaulted ceilings of the Franciscan church.
