Budapest’s Zsilip Launches Jewish Sunday School

Zsiliputi Jewish Sunday School in Budapest: engaging, age-based programs for kids 4–14 with games, crafts, stories, and Bar
when: 2026. February 20., Friday

Vasárnapi gyerekprogram is back at Zsilip — now reimagined as Zsiliputi Zsidó Vasárnapi Iskola, returning to the Zsilip Center’s two-story playhouse with multiple study rooms at Újpest Quay (Újpesti rakpart) 1 in Budapest’s 13th district. Hundreds of kids who spent their Sunday mornings here carry those memories for years — shared play, playful learning, and a buzzing community vibe. The refreshed Sunday school opens its doors to ages 4–14 with engaging, age-based groups, games, crafts, stories, and values that stick for life. Sessions run Sundays, 10:00–12:15 (some notes reference 10:00–12:30).

What Kids Do

Across all groups, kids prepare for Jewish holidays, learn about mitzvot, explore traditions, and absorb values that guide them well beyond Sunday. Whether you’re tiny, a tween, nearly a youth leader, or approaching Bar/Bat Mitzvah, Zsiliputi is built for you — with laughter, discovery, and a warm, growing community.

Group I: Ages 4–6 — Hullám Group

Every Sunday brings hands-on magic: playful green themes, lots of crafts, and lively Jewish stories and heroes. Expect discovery, storytelling, creating, and bonding into a true little community. Time: Sundays, 10:00–12:15.

Group II: Ages 7–9

Get ready for creative missions, Jewish tales, games, and a super-good vibe. From September onward, the team can’t wait to meet as many smiling little seashells as possible. Time: Sundays, 10:00–12:15.

Group III: Ages 10–11 — Yam Group

A real mini-community where you can make, play, laugh, and explore. Think Jewish stories, crafting, friendship, and plenty of good cheer. The team is set and counting down to shared Sundays. Time: Sundays, 10:00–12:15.

Group IV: Ages 12–13 — Bar/Bat Mitzvah Club

The BMC kicks off with positive energy, laughter, and good spirits. For those stepping toward adulthood, it’s about learning what it means to become an official member of the community. Expect conversations on Jewish values and traditions, your own big questions, plus games, crafts, shared thinking, experiential programs, creative challenges, and project tasks. Time: Sundays, 10:00–12:15.

Group V: Ages 13–14 — Future Madrich Training

The MKZ trains tomorrow’s madrichim week by week: how to lead by example, become strong guides and educators, understand children’s needs and development, and support them — all in a joyful, Jewish spirit. Time: Sundays, 10:00–12:15.

Pros
+
Very family-friendly: kids 4–14 are grouped by age with games, crafts, stories, and a warm community vibe
+
Short, kid-manageable schedule (Sundays 10:00–12:15) leaves the rest of the day for sightseeing
+
Located in central Budapest’s 13th district on Újpesti rakpart—safe, riverside area that’s easy to pair with Danube promenade plans
+
Easy access: multiple trams, buses, and M3 metro serve the area; rideshare and parking options are decent by Budapest standards
+
No deep Jewish background needed—program is values- and tradition-focused, welcoming to newcomers
+
Budapest is a major, well-known European city for U.S. travelers, with strong tourist infrastructure
+
Compared with Sunday schools or kids’ clubs abroad, this offers a uniquely Jewish-Hungarian community setting that feels authentic, not touristy - The specific program (Zsiliputi) isn’t internationally famous, so it may be hard to research reviews in English
Cons
Hungarian is likely the default; families without Hungarian may need to confirm if staff speak English and if kids can follow along
Not a “spectacle” attraction; it’s a local community school, so photo-ops and drop-in tourism appeal are limited
Dates can change, and sessions are brief weekly slots—less convenient for short-stay visitors who only have one Sunday free
