Budapest’s Zsilip Center, a community space with a two-level playhouse and a cluster of learning rooms, is throwing open its doors this May with playful learning about Jewish traditions for kids and families. Located at 1137 Budapest, District 13, Újpesti rakpart 1., the program lineup blends games, stories, songs, and hands-on activities designed to make values and holidays stick for the long run. Dates and details may change at the organizers’ discretion, so bring the whole crew and stay flexible.
When and Where
The action centers on Sundays and Friday evenings throughout May 2026 in the Zsiliputi playhouse and the Zsilip synagogue spaces in Budapest. The flagship sessions, Zsiliputi Jewish Sunday School, run in age-based groups for children and teens ages 4 to 14 from 10:00 to 12:30. Friday evenings feature a mini Kabbalat Shabbat for kids while adults attend teachings in the synagogue next door. The venue address is 1137 Budapest, District 13, Újpesti rakpart 1., right on the riverfront.
Zsiliputi Jewish Sunday School
Sundays are back and buzzing. The renewed Zsiliputi Jewish Sunday School returns to its home base—the Zsilip Center’s two-story playhouse and learning rooms—with a youthful, enthusiastic team welcoming kids and teens. Hundreds who once spent their Sunday mornings here still recall, years later, the friendships, laughter, and the thrill of learning by doing. Now that spirit is refreshed for a new generation.
From 10:00 to 12:30, groups rotate through activities tailored by age: preparing for upcoming holidays, exploring mitzvot, getting to know traditions, and absorbing the values that carry through life. Whether you’re little or already a budding teen leader, pre- or post-Bar/Bat Mitzvah, the Sunday School is built for you. Expect games with meaning, stories that land, crafts that connect, and a community vibe that keeps children eager to return week after week.
Upcoming Sunday dates in May 2026: May 10, May 17, and May 24. Sessions take place at the Zsilip Center, 1137 Budapest, District 13, Újpesti rakpart 1.
“Péntekecske” Friday Evenings
Friday nights get their own sparkle with Péntekecske, a mini Shabbat welcome in the Zsiliputi playhouse crafted for the little ones—and something special for the bigger kids too. While adults listen to Rabbi Glitzi’s teachings in the synagogue, a madricha leads the children through engaging, picture-rich activities about the weekly Torah portion, Shabbat, and the current holiday cycle. There’s plenty of play, learning disguised as fun, and a warm community feel.
Attentive kids can expect small surprises, and yes, there’s even a raffle to dial up the excitement. Mark your Fridays: May 15, May 22, and May 29, all in Budapest at the same Zsilip address. Families are encouraged to come together so everyone learns something new on Shabbat.
