Budapest’s riverside Zsilip Center is turning Friday evenings and Sunday mornings into a lively blend of play and learning for kids, while grown‑ups catch community programs in the synagogue. The Zsiliputi Playhouse, spread across two floors and packed with study rooms, invites families to dive into Jewish traditions through hands‑on activities, music, stories, and games at 1137 Budapest, 13th District, Újpesti Embankment (Újpesti rakpart) 1.
Where and when
Find it: 1137 Budapest, 13th District, Újpesti Embankment (Újpesti rakpart) 1. Dates line up across late May and early June 2026, with Friday evening “Péntekecske” sessions and the newly refreshed Zsiliputi Zsidó Vasárnapi Iskola (Zsiliputi Jewish Sunday School) on alternating Sundays. Organizers reserve the right to change times and programs.
Friday nights: Péntekecske
On 2026.05.22, 2026.05.29, and 2026.06.05, Zsilip hosts a mini Shabbat welcome designed for families. While adults listen to Rabbi Glitzi’s teaching in the synagogue, kids enjoy a playful, age‑aware program with a madricha in the Zsiliputi Playhouse. Expect stories from the weekly Torah portion, a peek into Shabbat, and the current holiday—brought to life with pictures, activities, and plenty of games. Attentive participants receive small gifts, and there’s even a raffle to keep the excitement buzzing. The call is simple: bring the whole family and let everyone learn together on Shabbat.
Sunday school returns, refreshed
On 2026.05.24, 2026.05.31, and 2026.06.07, Sunday morning kids’ sessions run from 10:00 to 12:30 under the banner Zsiliputi Zsidó Vasárnapi Iskola (Zsiliputi Jewish Sunday School). Hundreds of children who spent past Sundays here still talk about the memories: shared games, friends, and playful discovery. Now the program is back with fresh energy in the same two‑level playhouse and its many study rooms, ready to welcome ages 4–14, including tweens and teens.
What kids do
Groups are split by age so everyone gets the right mix of challenge and fun. Together they prepare for upcoming holidays, learn about mitzvot, and get to know traditions in a way that sticks. The goal is to pass on values that travel with them through life—whether they’re tiny first‑timers, pre‑B’nai Mitzvah explorers, or already eyeing junior counselor roles. It’s designed for the curious kid or teen eager to belong, learn, and play.
Why families love it
Because it’s community in motion. Parents get space for study and reflection with the rabbi, kids get storytelling, crafts, and team games, and everyone meets back up carrying a little more Shabbat warmth than they arrived with. The raffle and rewards keep little ones glued in; the rich content keeps older kids engaged. The building itself helps: two floors for free movement, lots of rooms to break out by age, and a location that’s easy to reach on the Danube’s edge in the 13th District.
