Budapest’s riverside Zsilip Center is throwing its doors wide open for a spring run of kid-first, tradition-rich programs in the two-level Zsiliputi Playhouse. Families will find hands-on learning about Jewish heritage wrapped in games, music, crafts, and warm community vibes at 1137 Budapest, 13th District, Újpesti rakpart 1. The building pairs a spacious playhouse with multiple study rooms, so while children explore the weekly portion, Shabbat customs, and current holidays in playful ways, adults can plug into learning and prayer in the synagogue next door. Pictures, prizes, and even a raffle sweeten the deal—plus there’s always room for the whole crew to show up and learn together on Shabbat.
Where and when
Location: 1137 Budapest, 13th District, Újpesti rakpart 1. The schedule runs through late April and early May 2026, with Friday evening Shabbat welcome programs and Sunday School blocks. Visitors can find practical add-ons—timing, lodging, and food-and-drink options—through the venue’s info channels to round out a family day by the Danube.
Friday evenings: Péntekecske
On Fridays, the Zsilip team hosts Péntekecske—mini Shabbat welcome sessions tailored for kids in the Zsiliputi Playhouse, while adults head to the synagogue to hear teachings from Rabbi Glitzi (also spelled Glici). Children are guided by a madricha in small-group activities centered on the weekly Torah portion, Shabbat (sábesz), and upcoming holidays. It’s learning through play, with visuals, laughter, and a prize for attentive ears—and yes, there’s a raffle too. Dates include 2026.04.24, 2026.05.01, and 2026.05.08, all in Budapest. The invite is simple: bring the entire family, and let everyone learn something new on Shabbat.
Sunday School returns refreshed
Sundays bring the renewed Zsiliputi Zsidó Vasárnapi Iskola (Zsiliputi Jewish Sunday School), back by popular demand and retooled for today’s kids and tweens. Generations who spent their Sunday mornings at Zsilip still trade stories about the friendships, songs, shared games—and yes, the playful learning—that stuck with them for years. Now the program returns in the fully equipped Zsilip Center with its two-story playhouse and a suite of dedicated study rooms.
What kids do and learn
From 10:00 to 12:30, a young, energetic team welcomes children ages 4–14 (including teens) into age-based groups. Together they get ready for holidays; explore mitzvot; get cozy with traditions; and soak up values designed to travel with them through life. Whether you’re tiny or tween, almost an ifi (youth leader) or heading toward bar/bat mitzvah, the Zsiliputi Sunday School is built for you. Upcoming dates include 2026.04.26, 2026.05.03, and 2026.05.10, all in Budapest.
Why families love it
This is community learning at its most approachable: kids dive into stories, rituals, and crafts that make Jewish time visible and fun, while parents get a meaningful Friday night study track with Rabbi Glitzi. The playhouse format keeps the energy high; the study rooms make space for reflection; and the programming cadence—Friday welcome, Sunday deep dive—helps families weave tradition into their weekly rhythm.
More dates on the way
The spring run is just the start. The calendar lists 14 total events, with more dates added as the season unfolds. Keep an eye on updates for additional Fridays and Sundays, plus details on timing, accommodation ideas, and where to grab a bite nearby.
