Every fall, Sárvár’s (Sárvár) downtown transforms into a colorful hub for the Simon-Judas Day (Simon-Júdás) National Street Fair. This massive event, dating back centuries, is one of the city’s signature gatherings. In 2025, it kicks off on Friday, October 24 at 6 p.m., when restaurants and food vendors open their doors, mostly attracting local residents eager for the start of the festivities.
Hundreds of Vendors Take Over Downtown
By Saturday, October 25, hundreds of vendors will fill every nook and cranny across key downtown spots, tempting visitors with everything from handcrafted goods and local food to unique trinkets. The fair sprawls over well-known streets and squares: Kossuth Square (Kossuth tér), Lajos Batthyány Street (Batthyány Lajos utca), János Hunyadi Street (Hunyadi János utca), Árpád Street (Árpád utca), Endre Ady Street (Ady Endre utca), Ferenc Deák Street (Deák Ferenc utca), Castle District Street (Várkerület utca), Ferenc Rákóczi Street (Rákóczi Ferenc utca), and Post Square (Posta tér).
Road Closures, Detours, and Transit Changes
Traffic will be rerouted from Friday 6 p.m. to Saturday midnight, funneling vehicles through Sársziget, Soproni (main road 88), Silk Factory Street (Selyemgyár), Hunyadi, Gárdonyi, Black Bridge (Fekete híd), and Rákóczi streets. Main downtown bus stops—including Batthyány (Main Square, Főtér), Rákóczi (hospital), and Hunyadi—will not operate during this period. Passengers should use the bus stations at the train station, thermal bath (Rákóczi Street/utca), and Gárdonyi Street (utca).
Health Services on Site
Health services will remain accessible on foot: the main clinic is at 6 Constitution Street (Alkotmány utca 6; call 1830 if needed), and local pharmacies are just a short walk away. There will be several first aid stations and ambulance units stationed throughout the fairgrounds, particularly by the Nádasdy Castle parking lot, city roundabouts, and Penny Market parking area.
Fair times and programs may change—organizers reserve the right to adjust plans as needed.
