A countryside escape at 65/1 Gyulai Road (Gyulai út 65/1), the Csabai Rendezvénypajta is back all year with family-friendly gatherings, weddings, festivals, friendly meetups, and corporate events in a cozy, nature-close setting. Tucked away from the city buzz, it’s made for slow afternoons, shared experiences, and hands-on fun.
Péknéni’s Sourdough Workshop – Feb 28
Settle in for an afternoon of slowing down, learning, and making: sourdough bread and braided kalács come to life while you pick up the essentials of caring for your starter and dip into the world of kombucha. It’s warm, authentic, and social—an ideal gift for anyone who loves baking, new flavors, and doing things together. You’ll leave with your baked loaf, your kalács, your own starter, and a stash of tips you’ll actually use. Location: Békéscsaba.
Kids’ Drawing Contest – Winter at the Barn
Running Jan 26–Feb 28, Winter Moments at the Barn (Téli élmények a Pajtában) invites children to show what the barn means to them in winter. Bring drawings to the Csabai Rendezvénypajta—drop them off during ice-skating visits as individuals or with kindergarten and school groups. Every submission will be displayed and labeled on-site. The top three win valuable prizes. Location: Békéscsaba.
Péknéni’s Sourdough Workshop – Mar 1
Back by popular demand on Mar 1: bake sourdough bread and braided kalács, learn starter care, and explore kombucha basics. You’ll head home with your bread, kalács, starter, and practical know-how. Location: Békéscsaba.

Pros
+
Family-friendly vibe is strong—workshops, kids’ art contest, and a cozy barn setting make it easy to bring the whole crew
+
Hands-on sourdough and kalács baking is a unique, memorable activity you can’t always find in U.S. tourist circuits
+
The venue’s countryside feel offers a peaceful break from big-city sightseeing, great for slow travel
+
Events are affordable compared with similar foodie workshops in Western Europe or the U.S.
+
Békéscsaba is reachable from Budapest by train or car, and local taxis can bridge the last mile to Gyulai út 65/1
+
No deep Hungarian knowledge needed for baking basics—demonstrations are visual and staff often manage with basic English
+
Compared with other countries’ farm/barn experiences, this feels more personal and less commercialized
Cons
–
Békéscsaba isn’t a well-known stop for U.S. visitors, so you’ll need to plan logistics and timing carefully
–
Hungarian may be needed for finer workshop details or the kids’ contest info; English support can be hit-or-miss
–
Public transport is fine but not seamless—expect a few transfers and limited late-night options; driving is easier
–
The draw is niche: bread baking and a children’s art display won’t satisfy travelers seeking blockbuster attractions
