Four summer days, more than fifty free programs, and a vineyard-framed backdrop: the 6th Déryné Festival unfolds across the picturesque Zemplén region from July 15–18, 2026, filling Sátoraljaújhely and nearby villages with theater, music, dance, and community. Headliners include 4S Street, The Biebers, Bohemian Betyars, Dánielfy, the Szabó Balázs Band, and the Déryné Band (Déryné zenekar), promising a special musical journey.

Theater that asks big questions

The festival opens July 15 at the Kossuth Lajos Cultural Center in Sátoraljaújhely with Csalóka szivárvány (Deceptive Rainbow) by Áron Tamási, directed by Attila Keresztes. Rooted in Székely folk morality, the play explores universal questions of fate: Does happiness exist without unhappiness? How do we grapple with boundless desires without losing ourselves? Mihály Kaszás plays the protagonist, Bálint Czintos, opposite Viktor Ivaskovics, a Jászai Mari Award winner, as Uncle Samu.

From a diva’s secrets to absurd comedy

The next day in the cultural center’s chamber hall, cimbalom-laced melodies frame the enigmatic life of Lujza Blaha, brought to life by Szilvia Pataki in Ferenc Lengyel’s Blaha Lujza és a Piros bugyelláris (Lujza Blaha and the Red Purse), directed by Zoltán Rátóti. Later at the Völgyszínház, laughter takes over with Indulhatunk, Edit néni? (Shall We Go, Aunt Edit?), an absurd comedy starring Kati Zsurzs. Folk dance also steps into the spotlight when the Forrás Folk Dance Ensemble (Forrás Néptáncegyüttes) performs Útravaló (Provisions for the Road) on July 17. The Déryné Company (Déryné Társulat) closes the Völgyszínház lineup on July 18 with Carlo Goldoni’s riotous Chioggiai csetepaté (The Chioggia Scuffle), a sensory plunge into a temperamental, sun-warmed world where you can almost smell the sea and feel the heat of pizza dough.

Sunset stages and cellar-door vibes

The Ungvári Wine Terrace becomes the arena for music and unbridled dancing, with sunset concerts by The Biebers, Bohemian Betyars, and the Szabó Balázs Band. After last year’s roaring success, 4S Street and Dánielfy return for cathartic shows. The Déryné Band (Déryné zenekar) also takes the stage, guiding festivalgoers on a familiar yet surprising sonic trip. For intimate sets, the Zsólyomka wine cellar row hosts soft-voiced singers and guitarists amid friendly conversations.

Family days and a traveling caravan

Széphalom hosts children’s programs on Friday and Saturday: puppet theater, instrument petting, a folk playhouse, and crafts for families with little ones. The traveling Theaterwagen caravan also rolls out. Fabók Mancsi Puppet Theater (Fabók Mancsi Bábszínháza) presents two productions in Hollóháza, Mikóháza, Karcsa, and Füzérradvány.
