A hearty, music-filled feast is taking over Matyóföld this winter and spring, as the Hajnal Hotel in Mezőkövesd revives the classic disznótor experience with buffet spreads, live music, and wellness perks. From January through the end of April—and again from October through December—guests can dive into a lineup of szaftos hurka, crispy kolbász, rich roasts, and all the soul-warming staples of a traditional Hungarian pig-slaughter feast, wrapped in cozy hotel comfort.
The long weekend runs Friday to Sunday at 3400 Mezőkövesd, 2 Hajnal Street (Hajnal u. 2.), and kicks off with a Friday night buffet dinner set to live music. It’s the mood-setter: full plates, clinking glasses, and songs that get feet tapping and voices humming. The event only goes ahead with a minimum of 40 people, so bring friends—and an appetite.
Saturday: The Big Feast
Saturday starts like the old days, early and cheerful. Between 7:00 and 9:00 at reception, each guest gets one shot of pálinka and one cup of mulled wine to warm up the morning. A generous buffet breakfast follows from 7:00 to 10:00.
Come noon, traditional flavors take the stage with a buffet lunch featuring pork broth with fine noodles and vegetables (orjaleves), cabbage with pork (toros káposzta), roast meats with potatoes, and fresh strudel (rétes). The evening peaks with the Disznótor—live music and a full-on buffet banquet stacked with soups, roast meats and ribs, hurka and kolbász, mashed potatoes with onions, stuffed cabbage (töltött káposzta), and desserts including honey cream slice (mézes krémes) and pudding. It’s communal, comforting, and deeply Hungarian.
Sunday winds down with a robust buffet breakfast starring cracklings (tepertő) and bacon (szalonna), the perfect finale to a flavorful, fun-packed weekend.

Beyond the food and music, guests have access to the Hajnal Hotel’s wellness facilities—ideal for a relaxing soak or a restorative pause between meals. The vibe stays friendly and homey, but with all the conveniences of a hotel stay.
