From June 7 to 25, venues across the city buzz with concerts, exhibitions, street music, guided walks, and major competitions—plus plenty of chances to taste the region in a glass.

Concerts, Stages, and Street Sounds

On June 14, the Magis Choir of Fényi Gyula Jesuit High School returns to the Archbishop’s Palace courtyard with a choral performance of the hit musical Made in Hungária by Miklós Fenyő, István Tasnádi, and Gábor Novai. That same day, families get a perk at the local McDonald’s on Rákóczi Ferenc út 100: from 10:00 to 16:00, dine in and snag a coupon to join their Family Day fun.

The Basilica shakes each Friday to Sunday with 20–30 minute organ concerts (June 12–14 and June 19–21), featuring J. S. Bach, Franck, Boëllmann, Dubois, and Vierne. Tickets are about 5.50 USD per person, on sale at the Basilica Visitor Center.

June 16 brings “Workshop Visit – Pál Mácsai’s Evening,” an intimate deep dive into the actor’s craft through poetry by Arany, Petőfi, Ady, Babits, Kosztolányi, Karinthy, Dsida, Attila József, Radnóti, Villon–Faludy, Nemes Nagy, Pilinszky, Ottó Orbán, Petri, Parti Nagy, and István Kemény. Venue: Bartakovics Béla Community House, tickets 5,000–6,000 HUF (about 13.70–16.45 USD).

On June 17, “Strolling Song” turns Eger’s historic center into an open-air choir hall courtesy of the Agria Mixed Choir. June 19 brings a burst of live acts: brass “Square Music” from the City Hall balcony on Dobó István Square with the Liszt Academy Trombone Quartet (artistic lead: Buda Gulyás), the summer-opening MISSH concert at Broadway Monkey, Börleszk Acoustic Night (Cabaret Band’s fresh, intimate reworks), Song of Songs at Farkas Ferenc Music School with actor Anna Györgyi (free), the Kárpátia rock concert at the open-air stage, a summery “White Wines of Eger” tasting guided by a sommelier, and the Nyárindító Show as the Egri Majorette Association parades into a spectacle on Dobó Square.

Film, Galleries, and Identity

All month, the Agria Park multiplex keeps premieres rolling (June 8–14, 15–21, 22–28), with a stacked concession stand. EKKE Cinema spotlights French comedies: June 16, Breakfast on the Mountain (Reggeli a hegyen), 95 minutes, subtitled; June 23, Heavenly Chaos (Mennyei zűrzavar), 91 minutes, 2025.

Exhibitions thread through the calendar: Kata Válóczi-Major’s free “SZELF” at Agria Park Gallery (June 7–25, also listed June 8–14, 15–21, 22–25), “The Sacredness of Life” traveling exhibit on Saint Gianna Beretta Molla in the Basilica (June 8–14, 15–21, 22–28), and “Pupils,” a multilingual cross-arts showcase at Agria Park (June 13–25). From June 15, “Individual Identity in a Global World” surveys painting to mixed media (June 15–19 and June 22–26). EKKE Art Faculty’s DIPLOMA ’26 design thesis shows and defenses span June 15–19 and June 22–23. Photo spotlights include Survivors (women who beat cervical cancer) and Sándor Kéri’s “My Threes” at Bartakovics Béla Community House (both June 15–20). From June 23–28, the “Fading Reality” memorial exhibition of painter Ernő Nagy unfolds at the Sándor Ziffer Gallery in Dobó István Castle Museum.

Archaeology, Science, and the Wild

Dobó István Castle Museum celebrates Archaeology Day citywide June 12–14 with interactive programs and talks that track discoveries from field to analysis. On June 18, “Drum Solo on the Forest Stage: In the Footsteps of Woodpeckers” unpacks these keystone birds with the Hungarian Ornithological Society’s Woodpecker Section—kids welcome, with quiet nature games provided.

June 18 also pours history: “Wine Walk in Eger Castle with Szuromi Family Estate” pairs 16th-century legends with present-day terroir among the fortress walls.

Night of Museums: Eger Goes All In

June 20 marks the 25th nationwide Night of Museums (Múzeumok Éjszakája), and Eger lights up dozens of sites. The Castle offers exhibitions, openings, and family programs; the Archbishop’s Palace Visitor Center, the Basilica, the Sándor Ziffer Gallery, the Archdiocesan Library (Főegyházmegyei Könyvtár), the Pál Tittel Library, the Valide Sultan Hamam ruins, the Observatory and Science Experience Center (Csillagvizsgáló és Tudományos Élményközpont), and the Géza Gárdonyi Memorial House host themed evenings—Gárdonyi’s home even plates up “Stories Sealed in Flavors,” a culinary-literary trip. The Civil Night of Museums joins for a third colorful community edition. Also that night: ride in style at Veteran Car Night—period vehicles, sultry summer atmosphere, exhibitions, and support for preserving motoring heritage.

Solstice Magic, Opera, and Baroque Glow

St. John’s Night (Szent Iván-éj, June 20) crackles across Sík-hegy: multiple picnics by Tóth Ferenc Winery bring the Lobbanáspont Fire Juggling troupe to crown the night. A six-wine tasting led by Katalin Tóth debuts new vintages: Egri Csillag 2025 Premier, Egri Csillag Superior 2024 Premier, Rhine Riesling Superior 2024 Premier, Kadarka Siller 2025 Premier, Kadarka 2024 Premier, and Várvédő Egri Bikavér Grand Superior 2022 from Sík-hegy, paired by Fázis Koszt & Kávé. Baroque fans can chase the Savaria Baroque Orchestra’s “In the Footsteps of King Solomon” in the English Ladies’ Chapel, while the Budapest Chamber Opera stages J. Haydn’s The Diva (Az énekesnő) at Bartakovics Béla Community House. Pop back to the Archbishop’s Palace courtyard for the musical Made in Hungária—romance, humor, and Hungária hits Viva Rock and Roll, Csókkirály, and the title track. Outdoorsy types tackle the Kaptárkövek Performance Hike across Bükkalja’s wild landscapes, honeycomb rocks, and volcanic-soil wine country with 15, 30, and 50 km routes.

June 19–21, Bükk Art Days – Baroque Festival returns to Eger and nearby gems.

Sunday: Sunrise to Symphony

June 21 wakes with a prime antiques fair in the historic center, then Sun Salutations on Dobó Square for the International Day of Yoga—welcoming all levels to move as they like. Free “Tower Music” sounds from the Cistercian church balustrade with the Liszt Academy Trombone Quartet, and the Egri Symphony Orchestra serves a free matinée under conductor Máté Szabó Sipos. Close the day with the sacred concert “I Sing Unceasingly to Thy Holy Name,” featuring Benedetto Marcello’s David Psalms.

Archers, Kaláka, and Alumni Wine

From June 25–28, the HDH-IAA Historical Archery European Championship takes over Eger Castle with individual and national team competitions, plus guided tours on the fortress’s history and military role; a parallel international archery meet runs the same dates. The 46th Kaláka Festival spreads across the city with its signature cross-arts blend: music, theater, verse-theater, kids’ shows, visual arts, and a folk-art fair. On June 25, Love Wildly (Szeressetek szilajon) gathers actor Tamás Jordán with Kaláka and the Sebő Ensemble to celebrate Attila József’s poetry. Alumni toast on June 26 as the Eszterházy Alumni Wine Club hosts Korózs Vineyard & Winery for a tasting.
