
Eger is switching to summer mode with a dense lineup of concerts, exhibitions, walks, wine, and wellness from June 5 to 22. Multiple venues across the historic city are hosting programs for all ages—free community days, movie nights, youth forums, torchlit runs, organ concerts, taster sessions, and big one-off shows.
Films, Forums, and Talks
June 9 brings EKKE Cinema’s Unexpected Melodies, a French comedy (103 minutes, 2024, original French with subtitles). The same day is Equality Day at the Uránia Youth Point and Community Space (Uránia IFI Pont és Közösségi Tér) with interactive sensitivity programs, civil group showcases, a film screening, and a roundtable.
On June 10, the Pál Tittel Library hosts a talk: The Ultramarathoner’s Adventurous 420-mile Journey for the Children of the St. Anna Home in Gheorgheni (Gyergyószentmiklós). June 11 features a book launch and discussion: Ignác Romsics’s The Great Powers and Hungary in the 20th Century. Also on June 11, the City Youth Forum invites candid, open dialogue between young people and decision-makers about what would make Eger better for the next generation.
June 16 returns to EKKE Cinema with Breakfast on the Mountain (French comedy, 95 minutes, 2023). That day, actor Pál Mácsai opens his workshop: a poetic evening navigating Arany, Petőfi, Ady, Babits, Kosztolányi, Karinthy, Dsida, Attila József, Radnóti, Villon–Faludy, Nemes Nagy, Pilinszky, Ottó Orbán, Petri, Parti Nagy, and István Kemény—seen and spoken by Mácsai. Venue: Béla Bartakovics Community House, tickets $13.70–$16.40 (5,000–6,000 HUF).
Exhibitions Running All Week
Diploma ’26 showcases BA and MA graphic design graduates from EKKE’s Media and Design Institute with exhibitions and defenses on June 11–12, then again June 15–19 and June 22–23.
Freedom, a free show by visual arts students from the Eszterházy Károly Catholic University Practice School, runs at Agria Park’s community gallery June 5–11. Individual Identity in the Global World exhibits accepted works in varied media, first June 8–12, then June 15–19, and June 22–26.
Photographer Sándor Kéri’s My Numbers in Threes is on at Béla Bartakovics Community House June 8–13 and again June 15–20. Survivors, a photo exhibition honoring women who beat cervical cancer, runs June 8–13 and June 15–20. The Life Is Sacred traveling show on St. Gianna Beretta Molla, patron of mothers, doctors, and unborn children, is in the Basilica June 8–14 and June 15–21.
Move, Meet, Enjoy
June 12 is Night of Movement across nearly 100 locations in Hungary, and Eger joins in: a 9.3-mile community bike ride starts at 7:30 pm from the Ferenc Kemény Sports Hall. The same evening, the 2nd Eger Torchlit Running Fiesta lights up the paths of Archbishop’s Garden (Érsekkert)—more about company than performance.
Organ concerts at the Basilica run every Friday to Sunday, June 12–14 and June 19–21, featuring J. S. Bach, Franck, Boëllmann, Dubois, and Vierne in 20–30 minute programs. Tickets: $5.50 per person (2,000 HUF), available at the Basilica Visitor Center.
June 13: Music, Markets, and Walks
I Look Up Festival (Felnézek Fesztivál) lands on István Dobó Square from 5 pm with free entry and a mission-driven, interdenominational evangelization effort. Concert times: Laci Gáspár at 6 pm, Azapeet at 7 pm, and Gergő Oláh at 8:30 pm.
Find Prosecco & Frittura Night: Italian vibes, bubbles, wines, and seafood bites return by popular demand. There’s also an acoustic set at BorZbár on the Soltész terrace, mandala painting with a live handpan concert in the Ottoman tent, and a Curated Wardrobe Edit—an intimate, style-led clothing swap-sale afternoon. Themed walk: Metal-bound Stories explores bells, crowns, swords, and iconic objects around Eger’s streets from 3 pm. Guided city tours in Hungarian start every Saturday at 10 am from Tourinform through September 12. Plus: a Summer-Kickoff Farmers’ and Craft Market at the Katona Square Hall, and the Édenkert Chill & Grill Party at the Valide Sultana Bath Ruins with bubbles, grills, cocktails, music, and sunset, to toast the 30th anniversary of Juhász Brothers Winery (Juhász Testvérek Pincészete).
June 13–14: Archaeology Days
Eger Castle’s István Dobó Castle Museum hosts interactive programs and talks over Archaeology Days, with activities across several spots on the grounds.
June 19: White Wines, Street Brass, and Summer Break
Kárpátia plays the outdoor stage, while a white-wine tasting from the Eger region samples five wines with a sommelier, paired with savory bites and cheeses—ideally on the sun-terrace beanbags if the weather behaves. Free square music rings from the City Hall balcony on Dobó Square with the Academy of Music trombone quartet (artistic lead: Buda Gulyás). Broadway Monkey throws a MISSH concert to kick off vacation, and Cabaret Band’s Börleszk goes acoustic with keys. A moon-phase-themed evening walk maps Eger’s buildings under the night sky. The Majorette Association parades downtown with the Szihalom Wind Band, then stages a full-ensemble show on Dobó Square. Tercina Ensemble’s Song of Songs concert features actress Anna Györgyi at the Ferenc Farkas Music School—free entry.
June 19–21: Baroque Festival
Bükk Art Days – Baroque Festival returns for its second decade across Eger and nearby venues, alongside the weekend organ concerts at the Basilica.
June 20: Midsummer Magic and Museum Night
Premiere and meet-the-creators: HOBO – Being on the Road Is Happiness (Úton lenni boldogság), a 93-minute Hungarian road movie at Agria Cinema. Eger leans into St. John’s Eve (Szent Iván-éj) with a witch-walk experience, a bonfire picnic on Síkhegy under the poplar with the Flashpoint Fire Juggling troupe (Lobbanáspont), and Tóth Ferenc Winery’s Midsummer Night tasting of six premieres, including Egri Csillag 2025, Egri Csillag Superior 2024, Rhine Riesling Superior 2024, Kadarka Siller 2025, Kadarka 2024, and Várvédő Egri Bikavér Grand Superior 2022 (Sík-hegy vineyard), plus dishes by Fázis Food & Coffee (Fázis Koszt & Kávé). Trashmadonna spins back to ’80s–’90s New Wave. The Beehive Stones Performance Hike (Kaptárkövek) in Bükkalja offers 9.3-, 18.6-, and 31-mile routes. Made in Hungária (musical by Miklós Fenyő and István Tasnádi) revives youth dreams and Hungária hits. Museum Night at Eger Castle marks the 25th national edition with multi-venue programs, openings, and family activities. Also: the Savaria Baroque Orchestra in the English Ladies’ Chapel, and a centennial retrospective of painter Ernő Nagy at the István Dobó Castle Museum, with Shimmering Reality (Derengő Valóság) on June 20–21 at the Sándor Ziffer Gallery.
June 21: Sunrise Salutations and Antique Finds
World Yoga Day lands with citywide programming. Greet the sun with communal Sun Salutations on Dobó Square—open to all levels. Two free classical sets: I Sing Your Holy Name Without Ceasing (Benedetto Marcello’s David Psalms) and The Praise of Beauty, a matinee by the Eger Symphony Orchestra conducted by Máté Szabó Sipos. The antiques fair fills the historic center with vintage furniture, books, porcelain, paintings, and rare finds, while tower music by the Academy’s trombone quartet floats from the Cistercian Church balustrade (artistic lead: Buda Gulyás).
June 22 Onward
Diploma ’26 and Individual Identity in the Global World continue into the week beginning June 22, keeping the galleries buzzing as Eger rolls deeper into summer.
