Eger is packing the summer with culture, wine, open-air theater, concerts, and family events across historic venues, parks, and the castle. From July into early August, the city’s galleries, squares, basilica, and Szépasszony Valley (Valley of the Beautiful Woman) turn into a rolling festival of exhibitions, candlelit yoga, symphonic pop, vintage markets, and big-name shows. Here’s what to catch, when and where—tickets range from free to paid, and many programs recur week to week.

Art and exhibitions

Derengő valóság honors painter Ernő Nagy with a memorial show at the Dobó István Castle Museum’s Ziffer Sándor Gallery, running July 14–19 and again July 21–26, July 28–Aug 2, Aug 4–9. Best of Diploma 2026 showcases standout graduation works from Eszterházy Károly Catholic University’s Faculty of Arts, July 15–19, then July 22–26 and July 29–Aug 2.
Agria Park hosts the 25th International Hungarian Photo Salon, Upper Hungary Region (XXV. Nemzetközi Magyar Fotószalon Felvidéki Régiója) through July 16, free on the mall’s upper level. The same venue stages Existence (Létezés), a cross-disciplinary show with 41 artists across painting, graphics, sculpture, and ceramics, July 13–19. The traveling exhibition The Sanctity of Life (Az élet szent) in the basilica tells the story of Saint Gianna Beretta Molla—patron of mothers, doctors, and unborn children—July 13–19, July 20–26, July 27–Aug 2, and Aug 3–9.
At 28 Dobó István Street, the building reopens as an art space with a contemporary exhibition and open studio centered on painter Erzsébet F. Balogh (Géza Gárdonyi Prize). The show spans July 13–19 and July 20–31, with dedicated Open Studio days July 7–31, open 3:00–6:00 p.m. on July 2, 7, 9, 14, 16, 21, 23, 28, and 30.

Music, theater and nights under the stars

The basilica’s organ concerts fill Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays: July 17–19, July 24–26, July 31–Aug 2. Tickets: 2,000 HUF (about 5.40 USD) per person, available at the Basilica Visitor Center. Programs run about 20–30 minutes with pieces by J. S. Bach, Franck, Boëllmann, Dubois, and Vierne. Start times: Friday and Saturday at 12:00, Sunday at 12:45.

Outside the castle walls, Bánfalvy Stúdió brings Michael Cooney’s Who Lives Here?! (Nicsak, ki lakik itt?!) to the Márai Center on July 17 (from 8,900 HUF, about 24.00 USD). The Eger Symphony Orchestra (Egri Szimfonikus Zenekar) gives its SzimfonikLájk open-air concert July 25 (10,000 HUF), while the BorZbár terrace in the valley schedules acoustic evenings July 25 and Aug 1. Eger’s wine scene is in full season. From mid-July to early August, curated wine tasting (borkóstoló) programs let you sample 29 wine styles across 34 wineries, choosing from 52 tasting offers. It’s the easiest way to meet the region’s best winemakers and sip Egri Bikavér, Egri Csillag, and more.
On July 16, step into history at Wine Walk in Eger Castle (Borséta az Egri várban) with Szuromi Family Estate (Szuromi Családi Birtok)—a historic walk and tasting threading 16th‑century tales with legendary local wines. July 18 brings a Summer Wine Picnic (Nyári borpiknik) at Tóth Ferenc Winery (Tóth Ferenc Pincészet), promising calm, slowness, and vineyard serenity. Pinocchio (Pinokkió), a one‑act musical adaptation of Carlo Collodi by Mihály Kertész, Kristóf “Paddy” Oravecz, and Barbara Xantus, plays July 19 for 80 minutes. That Sunday also brings the miniMarket baby‑mama design fair (10:00–17:00) and a Yoga & Creative Mug Painting morning: yoga with a singing-bowl relaxation followed by ceramic mug painting with Boróka.
