In the rainforest section, grab fish food from the vending machine and feed the colorful koi carp that swim right next to the alligators—what a rush! The Tropicarium Shark Zoo welcomes visitors year-round with creatures from around the world: lazy alligators, exotic reptiles and amphibians, tiny monkeys, free-flying birds, thousands of colorful fish, and ocean giants like tiger and brown sharks. Pet and feed rays in the touch pool with the keepers’ help. Under the shark aquarium, a 12-meter viewing tunnel puts tiger and brown sharks within arm’s reach. On Thursdays at 14:30, divers hand-feed the predators in a thrilling spectacle. Rainforest showers pour tropical rain over the alligators every 15 minutes.

Pros
+
Super family-friendly with hands-on feeding for sharks, rays, monkeys, and more – kids and parents will love the thrills.
+
Shark feedings and ocean tunnels are a classic aquarium draw, familiar from spots like the Georgia Aquarium back home.
+
Budapest's a bucket-list city for U.S. tourists, and this fits right into a Danube cruise or city break.
+
No Hungarian skills needed – it's all visual action with English-speaking guides and signs in tourist areas.
+
Easy public transport from downtown: hop Metro M4 to Etele út then bus 250 to Campona mall where it's located, or drive with free parking.
+
Stands out with its 12m shark tunnel and diver feedings, more intimate than massive U.S. aquariums like Monterey Bay.
+
Open daily year-round with multiple shows, so flexible for your Hungary itinerary.
Cons
Tropicarium isn't a global superstar like Lisbon's Oceanário, so it might fly under the radar for first-time visitors.
Out in Budafok suburbs, not walkable from Buda Castle or Parliament – adds 30-45 min travel each way.
Shark feedings only Thursdays at 2:30pm, so plan around that or miss the main event.
Smaller scale than huge American shark exhibits, feels more like a fun local zoo-aquarium hybrid.
