As autumn arrives, Balatonlelle transforms into a vibrant hub of cozy, exciting, and family-friendly events that draw both locals and visitors to the lakeshore. From torch-lit cemetery tours and pumpkin festivals to wine hunts and ghostly adventures, there’s a packed schedule designed to delight kids, adults, and everyone in between during the 2025 autumn break.

Commemorate, Explore, and Play: Start the Break with a Bang

October 22 kicks off the festivities with a tribute to the heroes of the 1956 Revolution. The day begins at 6:30 p.m. with a wreath-laying ceremony in Peace Park (Béke park), where historian Dr. Emőke Kovács delivers a commemorative speech. The celebration continues at the local cultural center with performances by eighth graders from Balatonlelle Elementary School (Balatonlelle Általános Iskola).

On October 23, step into history with “The Message of Freedom,” a family detective game inspired by the revolutionary spirit of 1956. Roam Balatonlelle’s iconic spots, solving puzzles at each stop—perfect for families, school groups, and anyone up for some playful competition. Participation is free, takes 1–2 hours, and there’s a small prize for successful sleuths. Just pick up your mission sheet between 1:30 and 3 p.m. at the cultural center and get searching.

Active Adventures Amid Autumn Colors

October 24 features the Kishegy Challenge, an activity-filled trek up Kishegy Hill with engaging games, warm-up walks (Nordic walking equipment available to borrow!), or a scenic train ride for those who prefer wheels over walking. At the panoramic lookout, participants enjoy playful contests, delicious treats, and a wine tasting. This all-in-one event package costs about $3 per person, but you need to register in advance since spots are limited.

Pumpkin Mania and Family Fun

The weekend of October 25 is pure family fun. Start Saturday with the TÖKéletes Nap (“Perfect Day”) family run — a 0.6-mile course open to everyone, regardless of age or pace, with a medal for all finishers. Registration is free but required.

Rádpuszta becomes pumpkin headquarters with its annual Pumpkin Festival. There’s a carving contest (with tips from master carver Benedek Kalmár, a.k.a. the “Pumpkin King”), craft fair, live music by László Molnár, balloon twisting, face painting for the kids, and photo opportunities by the themed wall. Spend the whole day petting animals, riding ponies, sampling the regional autumn menu at the thatched-roof tavern, and exploring surprise attractions.

Back in Balatonlelle’s center, the outdoor stage buzzes with the family-friendly TÖKéletes Nap fair: food, markets, contests for the most creative dish, best pumpkin carver, and sportiest family.

Market Magic and Bold Adventures

October 26 brings treasure hunting at the open-air Antiques Market, where hidden gems and vintage bargains await.

On the same day, hop aboard a miniature train to Rádpuszta for the Kalandkerék (“Adventure Wheel”) family day. The train ride is roughly $3 per person, with limited seats—pre-registration is a must. Activities include adventure playgrounds, animal petting, giant pirate ship bouncy castles, pumpkin carving, autumn crafts, and a special menu in the on-site restaurant.

History, Mystery, and Wine

History buffs on October 27 can delve into the fascinating past of the noble Szalay family, discover their ties to winemaking, and maybe even hear tales of Marco the orangutan and Tuzla the bear at the Szalay Mansion (now the cultural center).

October 28 turns up the excitement with a Wine Hunt. Participants scour the town for hidden envelopes, snap photos, share them on social media, and message the organizers for a chance to win a bottle of local wine.

The next day, as darkness falls, join historian Péter Kovács for a torch-lit cemetery tour, unveiling stories of local legends, with a stop at the renowned Szalay family grave. Meet at the cultural center entrance at 4 p.m.

A Haunted Halloween Finale

On October 30, the spookiness ramps up with a flashlight-driven ghost and bat hunt in Peace Park (Béke park) as it transforms into a Halloween adventure zone. Costumes are encouraged, and a flashlight is a must!

November 1 features the MYSTECH® Halloween Edition at the Y Club—an electrifying night with pulsating beats, top Hungarian DJs, custom decorations, and a 16+ age limit for true party lovers.

Before the break wraps up, spend a quiet moment at the “Eternal Memories – Messages to Our Loved Ones” event—a gentle, reflective end on All Saints’ and All Souls’ Day.

No matter your age or interests, Balatonlelle’s autumn break is a whirlwind of tradition, adventure, and delight on the shore of Lake Balaton.
