Balázs Andrea headlines a riotous new staging of Neil LaBute’s Fat Pig (Kövér disznó), returning to Budapest for multiple dates at RAM-Art Színház and beyond. Reuniting the hit Tortúra (Misery) team, Andrea partners again with director Árpád Iványi and actor-dramaturg Barnabás Réti for a sharp, crowd-pleasing two-act comedy running about 130 minutes.

The Team Behind the Laughs

Directed by Árpád Iványi, with a script by Barnabás Réti, the cast features:
– Helen — Balázs Andrea
– Tom — Tibor Pásztor
– Jeannie — Szilvia Lilla Tóth
– Carter — Barnabás Réti

Plot With Bite

Tom, an ambitious employee at a large corporation, stumbles into a romance with Helen, a whip-smart, outrageously funny woman who defies the reigning beauty standards. As their bond deepens, office jabs and body-shaming begin to poison their lives, stress-testing Tom’s courage, loyalty, and sense of self. LaBute’s satire dissects modern beauty ideals—how appearances sway success and recognition, and how far people will bend themselves to fit in.

From Off-Broadway to Budapest

The celebrated American playwright and screenwriter’s acclaimed satire makes its Hungarian stage debut. Premiering Off-Broadway in 2004, Fat Pig was nominated for an Olivier Award for Best Comedy.

Pros
+
Family-friendly if your teens can handle mature themes—smart laughs and big heart without being graphic
+
Recognizable playwright for Americans; Neil LaBute’s Fat Pig has Off-Broadway roots and an Olivier nod, so you’ll likely know the title
+
Central Budapest venues (Districts 6 and 13) are easy to reach by Metro, tram, or rideshare; parking garages nearby for drivers
+
Short runtime commitment for a night out—about 130 minutes with intermission
+
Good value compared to U.S. theater prices, with strong local talent and a proven creative team
+
Multiple dates give flexibility if you’re in town for a few days
+
A chance to see a U.S. play through a Hungarian lens—interesting cultural take on body image satire
Cons
Hungarian-language production; without surtitles, non-Hungarian speakers may miss nuances
Not ideal for younger kids due to adult themes and body-shaming content
RAM-Art Színház and smaller Budapest theaters aren’t internationally famous, so less “bucket list” cachet than West End/Broadway
Compared to English-language productions in London/NYC, this won’t offer the same language accessibility or large-scale staging, unless you’re comfortable with foreign-language theater
