Fehérgyarmat (Fehérgyarmat), the Erdőhát hub near the right bank of the Someș (Szamos) in northeastern Hungary, packs serious culture into a town of nine thousand. Its name nods to the 10th-century settlement of the Gyarmat tribe in the triangle shaped by the Tisza (Tisza), Someș (Szamos), and Tur (Túr). Today it’s the district seat and a buzzing administrative, educational, cultural, and economic center. Highlights include a 15th-century Reformed church with four spires, a thermal spa beach, leafy parks, and year-round shopping and events.
