Every year on the last weekend of September, Szolnok (Szolnok) comes alive for Tisza Fish Day (Tiszai Hal Napja) – combined with the Stove Festival (Sparhelt Festival). The event takes over the riverside square at Tisza Boatmen’s Square (Tiszai hajósok tere), promising two full days of fish, fun, and a touch of tradition along the banks of the Tisza (Tisza).
Locals insist that if you live near the Tisza (Tisza), you absolutely must try Tisza fish at least once in your life – whether it’s boiled, fried, or baked. The festival is the perfect opportunity: stalls serve up freshly prepared fish in every style, letting you taste the essence of Hungary’s iconic river.
Family Fun and Fishy Firsts
Besides the hearty food, families flock to the children’s section, where a unique “fish petting zoo” turns local aquatic life into cuddly stars. Check out the festival on September 27–28, 2025 – you might just leave with a new favorite fish dish and a newfound appreciation for stove-top cooking (sparhelt cooking).
