Spend a Sunday hopping across Lake Balaton for handcrafted finds, vineyard tastings, and lazy hours under volcanic hills. Two launch points, one legendary market, and a pair of afternoon adventures make this an easy, sun-soaked escape that blends boats, buses, and bold Balaton wines. The schedule runs every Sunday, 10:00–15:00, with options from both Fonyód and Balatonfenyves, plus add-on trips to either Folly Arboretum & Winery or Badacsony’s famed Istvándy and Laposa wineries.
How it works
Choose your deck: a fast boat from Fonyód or the Szent Benedek sightseeing cruiser from Balatonfenyves. Both glide to Badacsony, where a minibus whisks you up to the Káptalantóti Artisan Market (Káptalantóti Kézműves Piac), a beloved craft market. You’ll get a solid 1.5 hours to shop and roam. Think small-batch treats, local produce, crafts, and the kind of village buzz Sundays were made for.
Pricing and departures from Fonyód
The Fonyód route is a quick hop across the water. Price for the market program: $24.80 per person (converted from 9,000 HUF). Departs every Sunday at 10:00, returns by 15:00. In the afternoon, pick one of two add-ons:
– Folly Arboretum & Winery: 1.5 hours of free time among terraced evergreens and lake views, with a tasting of 3 syrups or wines.
– Badacsony winery tour: tastings at both Istvándy and Laposa, with 3 wines at each cellar.
Price for the market plus your chosen afternoon program: $44.10 per person (converted from 16,000 HUF). The program runs with at least 10 participants; numbers can be reached by combining individual bookings. Operates only at prearranged, pre-booked times; scheduled public transport services aren’t subject to the headcount rule.
Pricing and departures from Balatonfenyves
Prefer a slower float? Board the Szent Benedek sightseeing boat from Balatonfenyves. After landing in Badacsony, the minibus heads to the market for your 1.5-hour spree. Price for the market program: $33.10 per person (converted from 12,000 HUF). You can also add the same two afternoon choices:
– Folly Arboretum & Winery: 1.5 hours of free time and a 3-syrup or 3-wine tasting.
– Badacsony winery tour: 3 wines each at Istvándy and Laposa.
Price for the market plus your chosen afternoon program: $57.90 per person (converted from 21,000 HUF). Departs every Sunday at 10:00, back by 15:00. This version runs with a minimum of 15 participants; numbers can be reached with combined individual bookings. Like the Fonyód plan, it operates only at prearranged, pre-booked times; scheduled public routes are exempt from the headcount rule.
Upcoming Sunday dates
Mark the calendar for Fonyód departures: 2026.03.08; 2026.03.15; 2026.03.22; 2026.03.29. More dates to be added.
Where you’ll be
You’ll start from 8640 Fonyód, a south-shore Balaton town with breezy promenades and fast access to Badacsony’s basalt cones across the water. Once you reach Káptalantóti, the artisan market fills your basket, and your afternoon options top it off with either gardens-and-glasses at Folly or a double cellar stop in Badacsony that keeps the tastings coming.
