Inside, it’s a playground of interactive retro glory. Ever wanted to patrol the virtual streets of the Gazdagrét housing estate (Gazdagréti lakótelep) in an old-school police LADA? Slip behind the wheel of a real LADA police car turned simulator. Ever secretly thought you’d make a good news anchor? Test your on-air skills among the original set pieces of a classic news studio, complete with two massive, still-functioning TV cameras from back in the day.
You’ll get to check out space travel history too—see the same kind of space suit Bertalan Farkas wore on the Soyuz 36 (Szojuz 36) mission, plus a treasure trove of artifacts from the legendary 1980 Hungarian-Soviet space journey. Relive classic tech moments with a 64-kilobyte Commodore PC, a Videoton console, and the coolest handheld games from the ’80s and ’90s.
Retro Streets and Hungarian Pop Nostalgia
Snap retro selfies at the ÁFOR gas station (ÁFOR benzinkút)—maybe the same spot where VALMAR’s “Oh My God” (“Úristen”), Korda György and Klári Balázs (Korda György és Balázs Klári), as well as NEOTON Family (NEOTON Família) and other famous artists filmed their videos. Nostalgic storefronts, parade stands, and period-correct street scenes pull you straight into Neighbors (Szomszédok) TV drama vibes, or you can try on throwback styles at the giant interactive mirror.
Five phone booths play classic audio and put you one dial away from the past. And if that’s not enough, challenge your memory with playful quizzes on Soviet-Hungarian space flights, old cars, MALÉV, and retro computing.
Bistro and Bambi for the Win
Feeling peckish on your journey? The in-house bistro dishes up proper retro comfort food: hot dogs with pickles, nostalgia-laced drinks—even Bambi, that legendary Hungarian soda. The daily menu (soup plus main course) keeps regulars coming back Monday through Friday.
The Budapest Retro Experience Center’s senior special runs every Wednesday through May 2026.
