Where to Stay
Options are plentiful if you’re making a night of it. A 54-bed dormitory offers 2-, 3-, and 4-bed rooms across two levels in 16 rooms, ideal for students and groups. By the Hármas-Körös (Triple Körös) River and just 328 feet from the Liget Bath (Liget Fürdő), a campground features eleven heated wooden cabins for eight people each, plus tent sites—great for school groups, friends, anglers, and hikers. It’s accessible, set in shaded acacia woods midway between the Liget Bath and the Hármas-Körös on the city’s edge.
The Hárs Thermal Hotel offers 25 pine-furnished rooms with bathrooms, TVs, and phones—doubles and triples—hosting up to 60 guests. Expect thermal-water whirlpool and hydromassage pools, a sauna, a drink bar, and a billiard room, all a few minutes from downtown and the Liget Thermal Bath. The Körös Panzió sits in the city center of Gyomaendrőd, in Békés County, about 99 miles from Budapest and a few hundred feet from the Liget Spa and Beach, welcoming solo travelers, business guests, families, and tour groups.
On the outskirts, 0.6 miles from town along the Soczó-zug oxbow, Mezei Fishing Lodge offers a waterfront escape. Prefer apartment comfort? A freshly renovated, air-conditioned two-room flat right off the Main Road hosts up to six people, with a fully equipped kitchen, separate bathroom and toilet, and central heating. Pájer Camping rests on a backwater of the Körös in northern Békés County, maintaining its tranquil, close-to-nature charm: calm literally checks in here. In Erzsébet Liget (Elisabeth Grove), embraced by the Körös rivers in the city’s heart, Pavilon Panzió offers eight fully refurbished double rooms with bathrooms, a landscaped garden, and secure parking—now rated three stars. Three kilometers from town, an exclusive 16,145-square-foot building in a nearly five-acre park, rebuilt in 2006, doubles as a stylish guesthouse wrapped in silver firs.
Where to Eat and Play
Dig into local specialties and fish dishes—or go for steaks and Bavarian classics—at a climate-controlled spot that also packs a two-lane automatic bowling alley, both traditional and pool billiards, and foosball. On a quiet street off the main square, a cozy restaurant serves regional plates and fish, just a three-minute stroll from the thermal bath. The Körös Panzió also caters to dining needs for all traveler types, while that exclusive park-side guesthouse and another panzió near the main square and Route 46 blend lodging with hearty, home-style menus.
