🏛️
Every Saturday, the Parliament Museum offers free guided tours of the continuously updated exhibition A magyar törvényhozás ezer éve (A Thousand Years of Hungarian Legislation). These 45-minute tours start from the Parliament Visitor Center at 10 a.m., letting guests explore Hungary’s parliamentary roots at Kossuth Square (Kossuth Lajos tér) 1-3, 1055 Budapest, in the 5th District (Belváros-Lipótváros).
Exhibition Breakdown
The exhibition unfolds chronologically in 8 chapters, tracing Hungarian parliamentarism from the Middle Ages to the 1989 system change. The first part covers history from the beginnings through feudal assemblies. The second spans up to 1918, highlighting the birth of the modern parliament—from reform diets to the representative assembly and the solidification of new principles. The third summarizes the shaping of parliamentarism amid searches and restarts from 1918 to 1990. Visitors can interactively learn the essence of the Golden Bull and April Laws, plus gain deeper insights into those mid-century twists and turns.
