László Krasznahorkai isn’t only at home in the world of books—he’s a familiar name in film, too. Over the decades, Béla Tarr has adapted several of Krasznahorkai’s novels into acclaimed movies, with Krasznahorkai himself writing the screenplays for classics like Damnation (Kárhozat), Satan’s Tango (Sátántangó), The Turin Horse (A torinói ló), among others.
Decades-Long Collaboration
Their artistic partnership dates back to 1988, kickstarting a legendary run that reached one of its peaks with Werckmeister Harmonies (Werckmeister harmóniák) in 2001. This film is based on Krasznahorkai’s novel The Melancholy of Resistance (Az ellenállás melankóliája) and stands as a testament to their creative synergy.
Nobel Prize Bonus: Special Screenings
To celebrate Krasznahorkai’s recent Nobel Prize, Werckmeister Harmonies will be screened on October 20th, 22nd, and 23rd—an unmissable event for fans of both literature and cinema.
