The Royal Palace of Gödöllő opens its doors in 2026 with a full slate of culture in one of Hungary’s grandest Baroque landmarks. Concerts, theater, guided tours, family-friendly museum workshops, open-air strolls, and seasonal festivals fill the Grassalkovich Palace’s ornate halls and parkland from February through summer. The venue’s mix of historic splendor and hands-on programs makes it an easy yes for weekend plans or a day trip from Budapest.

Valentine’s weekend lights the fuse

From February 13 to 16, the park turns playful with a Valentine Heart Hunt, while February 14 brims with choices: Mesélő lakosztályok (Storytelling Suites), an interactive family museum session; thematic guided tours of the temporary exhibition A. E. Köchert, Jeweller to Emperors and Kings; the Valentine’s Day concert by Nikolas Takács; and the kids’ Kastélylurkók Klubja (Palace Tots Club) with a ballroom-themed workshop. February 15 brings a strolling concert by the Gödöllő Youth String Players plus repeat Köchert tours, and on February 16, Mama, Look! offers baby-friendly guided visits.

Hands-on art and story-driven music

Creative Tuesdays return: on February 17, Create With Us! explores iconic Hungarian and European paintings with decoupage; March continues with The Treasures of the Middle Ages (plus surprise painting) on the 10th, Landscapes and Still Lifes with sun printing on the 17th, the art of József Rippl-Rónai with “paint like Rippl” on the 24th, and Love Stories with watercolor on the 31st.

Classics, charity, and name days

February rounds out with VéNégy – Music Magic: Bridge of Souls, a classical musical fairy tale (Feb 21), further Köchert tours (Feb 21–22, 28), Zoltán Mága’s charity concert (Feb 27), and Elemér Name Day on February 28. March 1 brings Harmonia Divina – Incipit lamentatio, a sacred music concert. March 14 pairs a family workshop with a free Romantic Piano Trios concert by András Keller, Miklós Perényi, and Mihály Berecz. Baby-friendly tours pop up again March 16 and 30.

Spring into palace life

April hosts back-to-back family workshops (April 10–11), a concert by Klára Csordás and the Budapest Saxophone Quartet (April 12), and more baby-led wandering (April 13). May celebrates mothers with Zoltán Miller’s Mother’s Day concert (May 3), plus nature-themed kids’ club fun in the palace park (May 9) and a Klára Csordás & Quartetto Speranza recital (May 17).

Summer stage and camps

June heats up with the grand musical Made in Hungária (June 5), royal coronations at Kastélylurkók Klubja (June 6), more Mesélő lakosztályok (June 6), and Mama, Look! on June 8. School’s out with day camps: Elemér and Friends (June 29–July 3) and Palace Adventure Camp (July 20–24).

Pros
+
Family vibes are strong: baby-friendly tours, tots’ clubs, hands-on art days—easy win if you’re traveling with kids
+
The palace is a stunner—one of Hungary’s grand Baroque icons—so you get history plus live culture in one stop
+
Easy day trip from Budapest: Gödöllő is on the suburban HÉV train line and reachable by car in under an hour
+
Mix of concerts, workshops, and guided tours means there’s always something, from Valentine’s fun to summer camps
+
Plenty of universal themes (music, crafts, royal history), so you can enjoy a lot even without deep background
+
Compared with palace events in Western Europe, prices are typically friendlier and crowds thinner
+
The grounds and parkland add open-air strolls and kid runaround space, not just indoor museum time - Some programs and tour titles are in Hungarian, so English info or narration may be limited at certain events
Cons
Gödöllő and the specific event lineup aren’t world-famous, so you may need to do extra planning and translation
Reaching it is easy from Budapest, but less convenient if you’re staying outside the capital or relying on late-night returns
If you’re expecting big-name, blockbuster productions like Vienna or Versailles, the scale and star power are more modest
