Urban Getaway for Wine Lovers
For visitors who want to stay close to the action, there are modern city apartments for up to ten guests, set in one of Eger’s oldest streets, right below the castle and within easy reach of the city’s best downtown restaurants and attractions. Named after the city’s beloved “Castle Defender” (Várvédő), these self-catering apartments are perfect for wine enthusiasts and explorers alike.
Sip, Sample, and Stroll in the Valley of the Beautiful Women (Szépasszonyvölgy)
Eger’s Valley of the Beautiful Women (Szépasszonyvölgy) offers a unique horseshoe-shaped row of cellars, packed with choices for every palate. The Ferenc Tóth Winery (Tóth Ferenc Pincészet) occupies cellar 46, where you can enjoy everything from cheerful everyday wines to distinguished superior and grand superior selections. There’s more than wine on offer—local spreads, cheeses, exotic olives, and even artisan chocolate are served for guests booking a tasting.
A Family Tradition on Plain Hill (Síkhegy)
The legendary poplar atop Plain Hill (Síkhegy) has given rise to a picnic tradition. What started with just a few sunbeds and bottles of wine has grown into a monthly gathering from June to September that welcomes everyone—the number of attendees grows each year. Transfers are provided for convenience.
The Tóth family has cultivated these 60-acre (27-hectare) lands for over forty years, perfecting their wines from the iconic Plain Hill (Síkhegy) and Great-Eged Hill (Nagy-Eged) vineyards. Their mission: to refine Egri Bull’s Blood (Egri Bikavér) and Egri Star (Egri Csillag), and make wine lovers fall in love with Leányka, Kadarka, and Blaufränkisch (Kékfrankos).
