Budapest’s Gregorian Society set out to teach, spread, and restore Gregorian chant to the liturgy—and quickly realized it needed a performing ensemble to make that vision real. That’s how the Schola Gregoriana Budapestiensis was born in 1994, now a fixture of the city’s sacred music life and a weekly presence at the Franciscan Church in District V.

Weekly Evening Masses

From September to June, every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., the Schola, led by Attila Sztankó, sings at the Franciscan Church on Ferenciek Square (Ferenciek tere) (Budapest V, Ferenciek tere 9). These are full Gregorian Masses, with proper chants and the classic Ordinary—Kyrie, Sanctus, Agnus Dei—bringing an ancient sound into a living liturgy.
