To celebrate what would have been his 95th birthday, the KÉPEZŐ Gallery has opened a new exhibition honoring Gross Arnold (Arnold Gross) (1929-2015), Hungary’s beloved graphic artist and painter. Arnold, winner of the National Artist Award and the Kossuth Prize, became famous worldwide for his meticulously crafted, colorized etchings—a technique he reinvented in unique ways. Generations have grown up marveling at his intricate works.
Real and Imaginary Landscapes
This special exhibition, running until October 2, takes visitors on a journey through themes spanning his entire career. On display are pieces depicting his childhood home, scenes from his early years, as well as dreamy views of Transylvanian (Erdélyi), Hungarian, and foreign landscapes and cities. The highlight? Fantastical lands born entirely from Arnold’s imagination.
Arnold’s rich, vivid images make even the most ordinary scenes feel magical, offering a glimpse into the mind of a truly extraordinary artist.
