Gyomaendrőd is packing 2026 with festivals, concerts, exhibitions, and community events across multiple venues, welcoming families, culture lovers, and anyone up for a friendly small-town buzz. Most programs are free or low-cost, many are outdoors, and plenty are designed for kids. Dates and details may change, but the city’s calendar is full from spring to winter.
May: Markets, Stories, and a Lost Archive
May 10 kicks off with the National Animal and Flea Market, a regular draw for bargain hunters and rural-life fans. On May 11, actress Barbara Hegyi takes the stage with Stories from My Kitchen, or Barbara, Stand Up!, a warm, funny, and emotional solo show rooted in family memories, shared tables, cooking, and festive moments—echoing tales from her Park Publishing cookbooks.
On May 14, the Határ Győző City Library opens Boxed-Up Past 1941–1942, a rare exhibition from the once-lost negatives of Endre Kner. Curated by Juli Kéri and opened by historian Dr. Ádám Erdész, a Kner family researcher, the event features contributions from Éva Cserenyecz, Endre Kisdi, and Regina Kisdi-Szalai.
Literary fans roam In the Footsteps of Ferenc Móra with literary historian Dr. Tamás Bíró-Balogh on May 16 at the OMart Bookshop & Cultural Workshop. The month’s family highlight arrives May 23 with the 48th City “Cibere” Children’s Day at the Besenyszeg playground, a staple of local childhoods.
On May 28, Kamilka & Pesti Sikk lights up the stage with a glamorous swing journey that marries Hollywood’s golden era to Hungary’s sparkling swing past—created and led by lyricist-singer Kamilka Kiss and two-time Fonogram-winning composer-pianist Ádám Lőrincz. May 30 launches OMart Musical Summer 1 with the 25-year-old Vox Humana Mixed Choir from Dévaványa. Heroes’ Day follows on May 31 at Heroes’ Square.
June: Pots, Choirs, and Midsummer Fire
June 4 marks the Day of National Unity at Liberty Square by the National Flag. The 22nd Day of the Cauldron lands June 6 beside the Rózsahegyi House—expect simmering stews, smoky flavors, and friendly rivalry. On June 13, St. Anthony’s Day is celebrated at the St. Anthony (Szent Antal) Bakery, while OMart Musical Summer 2 hosts the band Természetes Intelligencia that evening.
The National Animal and Flea Market returns June 14. Kids get their own programs at the City Library on June 23, and babies and parents are welcome at a special Baby Program on June 25. June 27 is a three-stop Saturday: an exhibition opening of paintings by Lillis Boros and Netti Boros at OMart; OMart Musical Summer 3 with the 3rd Elizabeth (Erzsébet) Concert by the Gyomaendrőd Friends of Music Chamber Choir; and St. John’s Night fire-jumping at the Csicsergő water-tour stop and fishing lodge. June 29 commemorates the Day of the Persecution of Kulaks at Heroes’ Square.
July: Riverside Nights and Summer Stages
Körösparti Evenings, the riverside open-air series in Elizabeth (Erzsébet) Grove, runs on July 4, 11, and 18—music, breeze, and sunset over the Körös. OMart Musical Summer 4 on July 11 brings We Fly in the Spring of Our Hearts, an evening of performances with Zoltán Kiszely and Nicolette Merényi. On July 25, OMart Musical Summer 5 offers Summer, Tango, Love, a violin night with Kende Paraizs. From July 31 to August 3, the 30th Gyomaendrőd Volkswagen Beetle and Bus Party takes over the Liget Spa & Camping—classic VW culture, chrome nostalgia, and friendly caravan vibes.
August: Shooting Stars and Holiday Traditions
August 7 is the 11th Night of Shooting Stars—on the meadow and on the water. Wish Night delivers free meteor watching with an outdoor film screening and a telescope for sky-close views, plus a paid stargazing night boat ride on the Triple Körös (Hármas-Körös). The buffet stays open all evening. The National Animal and Flea Market returns August 9.
OMart Musical Summer 6 on August 15 spotlights A Night in the Spinning Room with the Vésztő Women’s Citera Ensemble. August 20 celebrates King St. Stephen and the New Bread in Elizabeth (Erzsébet) Grove, followed by the 28th International Fish Cooking Contest on August 21 at the same venue—bring your appetite and your spice game. On August 22, spiritual teacher László Ambrusz speaks on The Physical, Mental, and Spiritual Causes of Our Illnesses at OMart. August 28 marks the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Mohács.
September: Plums, Prints, and Artists at Work
September 5 simmers into the 10th Plum Jam Day at the St. Anthony (Szent Antal) Community House, where cauldrons bubble and recipes compete. On September 8, Late Summer Evening delivers a musical program at the City Library. September 12 is packed at OMart: Rózsa Bella’s etchings open, and the 10th Neighborly Visit, Later Descendants See Nothing…, features Dr. Béla Kovács presenting Endrőd’s history. The National Animal and Flea Market returns September 13.
From September 21 to 26, the 19th Gyomaendrőd László Holló Art Camp sets up at the St. Anthony (Szent Antal) Community House—watch artists create, talk technique, and share work. OMart Musical Summer 7 closes the month September 26 with the Regélő Fehér Táltos tradition-keeping drum group.
October: Tales, Memory, and a Ghana Journey
October 5 is the Day of Folk Tales at the City Library. October 6 commemorates the Martyrs of Arad at the Ferenc Kállai Integrated Cultural Institution and Cultural Center. On October 10, author Zsuzsanna Garay presents The Little Girl and the Scarecrow at OMart for the Day of the Hungarian Folk Tale. The National Animal and Flea Market returns October 11.
Autumn Exhibition and Pumpkin-Carving Family Day takes over the Béla Vidovszky City Gallery on October 17. By popular demand on October 20, OMart repeats From the Machete to the Smartphone, a travelogue on Ghana that bridges bush paths and broadband. October 23 marks the National Holiday at the Ferenc Kállai Cultural Center, and October 24 hosts the Confucius Institute Conference at the St. Anthony (Szent Antal) Community House.
November–December: Markets, Memory, and Music
The National Animal and Flea Market returns November 8. On November 13, OMart’s 4th History Class, Chance for Freedom?, features Albert Molnár discussing 1956. The City Library’s This Is How We Prepare—Advent Fair opens November 20, followed by the 17th Gyomaendrőd Pig Slaughter Festival and János Tímár Butchers’ Pálinka Memorial Contest on November 21 at the Lajos Varga Sports Hall. Advent Tuning continues November 24 at the Library. November 28 brings an exhibition opening of the Children’s Drawing Contest at OMart.
December 12 crowns the year with Pictures at an Exhibition—Mihály Demeniv, Concorde Talent Award–winning accordionist, and friends at OMart. The National Animal and Flea Market closes the year December 13.
