Gyomaendrőd is stepping into winter with a calendar that mixes folk flavors, festive traditions, and a surprising amount of salsa. From pork feasts and author meetups to Advent programs and a Christmas choir night, the town’s cultural pulse is relentless through December—and already teasing spring with a major food festival.

Feast First: Pork, Pálinka, and Pride

On November 22, the 16th Gyomaendrőd Pork Feast and János Tímár Butcher’s Pálinka Memorial Competition fires up the kettles. Teams who make pig-slaughter-day staples with heart and soul are in, turning out grilled sausage, blood sausage, cabbage with pork, and every traditional dish you’d expect. The market sells local sausage, pork cracklings, and smoked meats, while hosts tempt visitors with onion-fried blood, cigánka, and roast meats. It’s culinary nostalgia you can eat.

Books, Rehab, and Rhythm

On November 22, there’s also a public meet-up with TV icon Judit Endrei in town. Then on November 23, the OMart Bookshop and Cultural Workshop welcomes guests at 3 p.m. for another sit-down with Judit Endrei—expect stories, warmth, and a proper Sunday vibe.
November 24 brings “XMAS Rehab,” or “no Christmas without stress,” at the Győző Határ City Library at 5 p.m.—a seasonal sanity check, local-style.
Latin fever hits November 25 with a Salsa & Bachata dance course in Gyomaendrőd, pitched as easy, modern, and set to hit music. Women are advised to come with a partner. The course returns on December 2, 9, and 16—plenty of chances to nail that first spin.

Screenings and Remembrance

On November 27, the Kállai 100 Memorial Year continues with a screening of The Witness Again (Megint tanú) at the Ferenc Kállai Integrated Cultural Institution and Community Center—a nod to film heritage with a local connection.

Advent Unfolds

Advent in Gyomaendrőd starts November 30 at 4 p.m. with greetings from Mayor Balázs Toldi, reflections from Evangelical pastor Glória Seben, and a program by the German Nationality Self-Government.
December 7 ramps up community care: noon to 1 p.m. brings a charity meal for those in need (a bowl of goulash and bread), plus a Santa tent from 2–4 p.m., winter folk traditions with the Körösmenti Folk Dance Ensemble, and 4 p.m. reflections by Father Gábor Czank.
December 14 at 4 p.m., the Baptist Church of Gyomaendrőd offers a musical devotion titled Living Hope. The same day, the town’s animal and flea market returns.
December 21 goes full festive: 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Advent fair with handmade goods, chimney cake, and Laci’s kitchen; an Advent running race; 10 a.m.–2 p.m. kids’ workshop (gingerbread baking, wheel-throwing, ornament-making); 11 a.m. a musical, interactive Frozen show; 3 p.m. Christmas Angels with Adrienn Várnai and Adél Mészáros; and 4 p.m. reflections by Reformed pastor Tibor Papp.

Music Highlights

December 6 features a concert by guitarist József Eötvös. On December 20, the Christmas Choral Concert invites the town’s music lovers, with performances by the Gyomaendrőd Music Lovers’ Chamber Choir (conductor: Nóra Gecseiné Sárhegyi), the Sono Felici Vocal Ensemble (conductor: Erzsébet Fekécsné Beregszászi), and Tamás Jakus on organ.

History Hour and Beyond

December 13 at 4 p.m., History Class No. 3 with István Tamás Molnár takes place at the OMart Bookshop and Cultural Workshop.
And save the spring dates: April 30–May 2, 2026, brings the 27th Gyomaendrőd International Cheese and Cottage Cheese Festival to Szabadság Square—three days when curds are king.
