Gyomaendrőd is gearing up for another packed year in 2026 with non-stop fun for everyone—festivals, concerts, exhibitions, and community gatherings that make it the ultimate spot for family adventures and cultural vibes. From Easter egg hunts to cheese fests, star-gazing nights, and live music, there’s something for kids, adults, and history buffs alike. Mark your calendars for these highlights scattered across the town’s cozy venues like the Határ Győző City Library, Vidovszky Béla City Gallery, OMart Bookshop and Cultural Workshop, and outdoor spots like Liberty Square (Szabadság tér) and Elizabeth Grove (Erzsébet liget).
Spring Kickoff: Late March to April
Kick things off on March 31 with “Tényleg szeretsz? Háború és béke a nappaliban” (Do You Really Love? War and Peace in the Living Room) at Határ Győző City Library. That same day through April 2, celebrate World Water Day with the “Vizekről álmodni…” National Youth Art Competition exhibit opening and awards at Vidovszky Béla City Gallery, alongside the “Folyókról álmodni…” (Dreaming of Rivers…) exhibit there. On April 4, join the Easter egg hunt at Csicsergő—find the eggs, answer the questions next to them, score prizes, plus bunny petting and Easter games. The Water Day competition and river exhibit continue on April 4 and then April 7-11. April 5 brings Easter Family Day from noon: crafts and egg tree decorating all day, Easter sprinkling at 1 p.m. with Körösmenti Dance Ensemble, egg painting demo and workshop at 2 p.m., and “A rakoncátlan nyúlgyerek” (The Naughty Bunny Kid) puppet show by Batyu Bábszínház at 3 p.m. Entry $1.40, free for children under 6. Catch the fun musical tale “A kiskakas gyémánt félkrajcárja” (The Rooster’s Diamond Half-Crown) on April 8 at the library for $1.35—tickets required in advance. Poetry Day on April 11 features “A hangraforgó zeng a fű között…” with Győr’s Hangraforgó band at OMart. April 12 is the national animal and flea market.
April Deep Dive: History, Poetry & Fests
April 14 marks Holocaust Remembrance Day with the Debrecen Jewish Quarter Art Colony exhibit opening by Heller Zsolt of the Debrecen Jewish Cultural and Scientific Research Institute, plus Dr. Szonda István’s talk on famous Gyomaendrőd-born Jews. Water and river exhibits run April 14-17. On April 16, Kamarás Iván reimagines hits from R-GO, Edda, Tankcsapda, Valmar, Magna Cum Laude, Wellhello, Azariah, and more in “A KÖLTÉSZET (NA)APJA” (The Poetry (Non-)Day). April 21-22 hosts the Határ Győző City Poetry Recitation Contest at the library. Meet author Baráth Viktória of Álomgyár Kiadó on April 22—she started writing for fun and now shares book secrets and behind-the-scenes stories. The 23rd Gyomaendrődi Ethnographic Conference takes place at St. Anthony Community House (Szent Antal Népház) on April 25, followed by Dr. Smiriné Farkas Katalin’s photo exhibit opening and “Mennyit ér a gondolat…?” (How Much is a Thought Worth…?) poetry concert with Budapest’s Strófa Trio at OMart on April 26. Wrap up April with the 27th International Cheese and Curd Festival, April 30–May 2, at Liberty Square (Szabadság tér).
May Madness: Markets, Laughs & Kids
May 6 brings the SZÖVEGELŐ diorama exhibit at the library. National animal market on May 10. Hegyi Barbara’s stand-up “Történetek a konyhámból, avagy Barbara, stand up!” (Stories from My Kitchen, or Barbara, Stand Up!) on May 11 dives into family food tales from her recipe books. Explore “Móra Ferenc nyomában” (In Ferenc Móra’s Footsteps) with Dr. Bíró-Balogh Tamás at OMart on May 16. The town’s 48th “Cibere” Kids’ Day is May 23 at Besenyszegi playground. Swing into Hollywood and local vibes with Kamilka & Pesti Sikk on May 28, featuring Kiss Kamilka and Lőrincz Ádám. May 30: OMart’s Musical Summer 1 with the 25-year-old Dévaványa Vox Humana Choir. Heroes’ Day on May 31 at Heroes’ Square (Hősök tere).
