
Gyula is packing winter and spring with events that blend history, humor, food, and plenty of craft beer. The Elixbeer Brewery keeps opening its doors with “Sörházi beugró” tours and tastings on multiple dates from January 14 through the end of the month and beyond. Between sips, the city rolls out guided walks, castle adventures, candlelit tours, wellness nights, markets, and a strong lineup of theater, literature, and stand-up.
Castle thrills, candlelight, and living history
Gyula Castle (Gyulai Vár) anchors the weekends with guaranteed programs January 16–18, 23–25, and January 30–February 1. Expect working blacksmith demonstrations, saber fencing classes and showcases, a falconry show, a prison visit, and siege-themed walks. Candlelit castle tours and the glow of “A kastély gyertyafényben” return on January 17, 24, and 31, while siege-focused experiences continue with “Gyulai Vár: Évszázadok ostromai” on January 22 and “Ostromséta” plus “Fegyvertári szemle” on January 18. The family-friendly “Kastélytúra Tacskó Döncivel” pops up January 18, 25, and February 1.
Walks, wellness, and markets
“Belvárosi barangoló” guided city strolls weave through the center on January 16, 19, 23, 26, and 30. The castle bath goes nocturnal with “Éjszakai wellness a Gyulai Várfürdőben” on January 17, 24, 31, and February 7. “Portéka vásár,” a makers’ and producers’ market at the World Clock, sets up on January 17, 24, and 31.
Comedy, theater, and literary nights
Sándor Badár brings a solo stand-up set on January 15. The Castle Theater (Várszínház) hosts a László Krasznahorkai conference and reading on January 22. “GENGSZTER POP avagy a Bonnie, a Clyde és a Ganxsta” arrives January 26. The Museum Free University series dives into Roman magic on January 28, Herod, Jesus, and the Holy City on February 25, the March 15, 1848 revolution on March 25, and asks “Hadvezérek vagy mártírok?” on April 29, then traces fashion from corsets to bob cuts on May 27. Theater highlights include Mór Jókai: The Count of Fools (A bolondok grófja) by the Déryné Company (Déryné Társulat) on February 17, and Magda Szabó: Abigail (Abigél) on February 25.
Music, dinners, and café culture
Romantika Bistro pairs dinner with live tunes by Tibi Sztojka on January 16, 23, and 30. La Sposa Caffè lines up an exclusive January kick-off brunch and a conversation with Ambassador Dr. Adrien Müller on January 24, a Valentine’s wine dinner on February 13, and double seatings of A Séf vacsorája — a six-course chef’s dinner — on March 7.

“Valahol Amerika / Bon Bon 30” lands February 8, followed by Dumaszínház’s András Somogyi on February 9, Dr. Kitti Almási’s “Elvarratlan szálak” on February 12, The Masters of Illusion on February 27, and Claudia Liptai’s “Clauságok” on March 5. Dog lovers gather for the Dachshund Meetup 2026 (Tacskótalálkozó 2026) at the Almásy Castle Visitor Center on March 21. Agility takes over with the Medivid Agility and ParAgility Festival April 24–26. Danny Blue’s “A titok” is set for May 7, the Gyula Festival of Flowers (Gyulai Virágok Fesztiválja) blooms May 9–10, the Pálinka Festival pours May 22–24, and the 4th Zumba Festival Gyula pulses August 21–23.
