Hajdúböszörmény turns into Hungary’s capital of horsepower from August 7–9, 2026, as the Hajdúság Expo Agricultural and Industrial Exhibition and Fair returns for three packed days across multiple venues in the city. Farmers, engineers, families, and machine lovers roll in for a unique mix of trade fair, agricultural forum, and one of Eastern Hungary’s biggest live machinery showcases. The headliners: the Hajdú International Tractor Pulling Competition, the National Amateur Tractor Pulling Championship, and the East Hungary Agricultural Forum. Expect thundering engines, towering machines, and a full-on festival atmosphere.
Roots in the Land, Eyes on Innovation
Under the Hajdúság Expo banner since 2012, organizers have worked to spotlight everything that keeps this region’s rural economy ticking—from primary producers and family farms to the industrial players serving them. The mission in 2026 is the same: support companies, growers, and agricultural businesses rooted in the Hajdúság, and keep the East Hungary Agricultural Forum among the country’s most visited professional events. The forum and expo dive into the issues that matter now: research and development, industrial trends, and the latest in livestock and crop production.
Community First: Blood Drives and Skills
Social responsibility is not just a slogan here. The event puts special focus on families, children, vocational training, education, and continuous support for the Hungarian Red Cross with an on-site blood donation program. Last year alone, more than 150 donors rolled up their sleeves over two days. The show’s success rides on strong local backing too, with thanks to the NAGÉV Group, Formula-GP Ltd. (Kft.), and Hajdúböszörmény Peace Agricultural Ltd. (Hajdúböszörményi Béke Mezőgazdasági Kft.)—and company leaders Antal János Nagy, Imre Uzonyi, Imre Sántha, Lajos Bodnár, and Zoltán Rózsa—whose support helped make the Hajdúság weekend click.
Engines, Exhibitors, and a Tractor Carnival
Visitors can tour sprawling agricultural machinery displays, meet exhibitors, and catch expert talks before the show goes full spectacle with a technicolor tractor carnival. The big draw is the tractor pulling arena, where machines with thousands of horsepower dig in for crowd-lifting runs. On Friday, August 7, the arriving teams parade around Hajdúböszörmény’s Grand Boulevard in a rolling carnival of trucks and tractors, hundreds strong, heading straight to the venue.
East Hungary Agricultural Forum: Deep-Dive Friday
Kicking off Friday, August 7, the East Hungary Agricultural Forum—organized with Magyar Mezőgazdaság Ltd. (Kft.)—holds a mirror to the sector’s sharpest challenges and opportunities. From cattle and dairy to pig breeding, poultry, crop production, and support industries, the program opens space for hands-on insights and frank roundtables led by top specialists and widely respected producers. The industrial side gets equal time, with updates on current issues and new developments. In 2025, the professional program drew more than 200 registered participants; the 2026 edition aims even higher.
Europe’s Tractor Pulling Elite Hit the Dirt
The tractor pulling festival, now in its 26th year in Hajdúböszörmény—Hungary’s fourth-largest market town by administrative area—takes over the dedicated pulling track beside the Széchenyi István Agricultural and Food Industry Technical School, Vocational School, and Dormitory. It’s the country’s only purpose-built pulling strip, and with the European Tractor Pulling Committee (ETPC) on board, the weekend stages both international and domestic rounds. Hungary’s sole ETPC representative, Hajdúböszörmény has already hosted multiple European Cup races, and this year’s Hajdú International will see roughly 19 foreign competitors join the action.
How Tractor Pulling Works—and Why It Thrills
The Italian-built sled is the star opponent. Only the strongest tractors can drag it the full 100 meters, and on the second pull it loads up to 25 tons—turning the track into a power test that’s brutally simple: whoever pulls the sled the farthest wins. That makes it pure theater of torque and traction, but there’s craft, too—the driver’s finesse matters as much as raw output. Expect ear-splitting engines, imposing builds, and beautifully engineered monsters across Heavy Modified, Light Modified, Super Stock, and Mini Modified. Alongside them, Hungarian amateurs gun for glory in the National Amateur Tractor Pulling Championship. The event runs under ETPC rules with Dutch judges and crew.
City Backing, Education Ties, and a Regional Showcase
The Hajdúböszörmény Tractor Pulling Association works closely with the Northern Agricultural Vocational Training Center’s Széchenyi István school to support agricultural training, including the city’s nearly 80-year-old tractor driver education tradition. Local companies and the City Council are in, too: this year the council unanimously backed the event and provides municipal spaces free of charge. The bigger goal is a nationwide spotlight on Hajdúböszörmény and the Hajdúság—its farming heritage, development drive, and the passion for the land that binds seven historic hajdú towns: Hajdúböszörmény, Hajdúdorog, Hajdúhadház, Hajdúnánás, Hajdúszoboszló, Polgár, and Vámospércs.
Why It Matters Here
Together with the region’s historic hajdú towns, Hajdúböszörmény counts more than 120,000 residents and over 247,000 acres of top-class arable land. That’s fertile ground—literally and figuratively—for growth in business and community life. The tractor pull is a symbol of that strength: a celebration of the power that drives daily work and long-term progress.
