The Hegymagas Market is back year-round in 2026, welcoming shoppers on the edge of the village along the road toward Szigliget. Expect the beloved lineup and fresh faces among the stallholders every Saturday from 7:30 a.m. at 8265 Hegymagas, Szigligeti Ăşt (Szigligeti Road).
What’s on the stalls
Producers bring chemical-free seasonal vegetables and fruit, artisan cheeses, smoked meats, homemade cordials and jams, breads, cakes, plus gluten-free, diabetic-friendly, and vegan baked goods. There’s honey, gingerbread, and additive-free cosmetics. New this year: Hegymagasi Marhaságok with fine smoked meats and Levendula Porta with gorgeous cheeses. Arrive hungry—there’s a surprise breakfast for early birds.
Community vibe, easy access
Created and run by locals, this eco and organic producers’ market is as much about connection as it is about shopping—chatting, swapping tips and recipes, taking a break, and meeting neighbors. It’s easy to reach by car, bike, or bus, and it’s kid-friendly and dog-friendly. Card payments accepted.
Upcoming Saturdays
Market days include 02/21/2026, 02/28/2026, 03/07/2026, and 03/14/2026, with more dates added throughout the year.

Pros
+
Family-friendly vibe with kid- and dog-friendly stalls, low-key crowds, and a surprise breakfast that makes early mornings fun
+
Lots of safe, local foods (gluten-free, vegan, diabetic-friendly) so it’s easy to find something for everyone in a U.S. family
+
Internationally familiar concept (farmers’ market) so you’ll know the drill even if it’s your first time in Hungary
+
Location near Szigliget in the Balaton region is a known holiday area for foreign visitors, so it fits neatly into a Lake Balaton itinerary
+
No Hungarian required—smiles, simple English, and card payments make buying easy
+
Simple access by car, bike, or local bus; parking is usually straightforward outside big resort weeks
+
Great value versus similar organic markets in Western Europe or U.S. resort towns, with authentic small-producer goods
- Hegymagas itself isn’t a headline destination, so you might need to plan around Balaton sightseeing to justify the trip
Cons
–
Early start (from 7:30 a.m.) can be rough with jet lag, and popular items may sell out by late morning
–
Limited rainy-day cover compared with larger city markets; weather can affect the experience
–
Smaller than big-city markets in the U.S. or Budapest, so fewer stalls and less variety if you expect a full food-hall scene
