Shop local at Hegymagas Market 2026 on Szigligeti Road: fresh produce, artisan cheeses, smoked meats, vegan pastries, family-friendly vibe, breakfast, cards accepted, dog-friendly, every Saturday.
when: 2026. March 12., Thursday

Hegymagas’s weekly market is back year-round in 2026, every Saturday from 7:30 a.m., at the edge of the village along the road to Szigliget (8265 Hegymagas, Szigligeti Road [Szigligeti út]). Expect the familiar buzz, new vendors, and a warm community vibe—with a surprise breakfast waiting if you arrive hungry.

Local producers stock the stalls with chemical-free seasonal vegetables and fruit, artisan cheeses, smoked meats, homemade cordials and jams, breads, cakes, and gluten-free, diabetic-friendly, and vegan pastries. You’ll also find honey, gingerbread, and additive-free cosmetics. New this year: Hegymagas “Marhaságok” joins with fine smoked meats, and Lavender Farm (Levendula Porta) brings stunning cheeses.

Community First

The eco and organic producers’ market was created and is run by residents with deep local ties. Beyond shopping, it’s a true social hub: chat, swap tips and recipes, and take a breather among neighbors and visitors alike.

Easy Access, Family-Friendly

Come by car, bike, or bus. There’s a kids’ corner, breakfast, card payments, and it’s dog-friendly.

Pros
+
Super family-friendly: kids’ corner, dog-friendly vibe, and easy breakfast options make Saturday morning simple
+
Great for food lovers: chemical-free produce, artisan cheeses, smoked meats, jams, gluten-free/vegan pastries—lots to taste and take home
+
Community feel is strong, so you’ll get genuine local interaction rather than a tourist trap
+
Card payments accepted, which is convenient if you’re not carrying forints
+
No Hungarian required for basics—pointing, smiles, and a few English-speaking vendors will get you far
+
Easy access by car or bus, and the village setting makes parking and navigation low-stress
+
Nice add-on to a Lake Balaton trip—Szigliget and nearby attractions give you more to do in the area
Cons
Not a globally famous market, so expectations should be modest compared to big-name European markets
Hegymagas itself isn’t widely known to foreign visitors, which might mean extra planning for routing and timing
Public transit is workable but not seamless like big-city options; a car is more convenient
Smaller scale than major farmers’ markets in the U.S. or Western Europe, so it’s more about charm than breadth of choice
