when: 2026.01.16., Friday - 2026.01.17., Saturday

Hévíz rolls into 2026 with a packed cultural and wellness calendar built around its world‑famous thermal lake and bath. All year, the town mixes festivals, classical and pop concerts, kids’ programs, theater, and active outdoor fun. Beyond the lake’s lily‑dotted waters in winter and summer, visitors can drop into a community center, cinema, library, and museum collection—plus plenty of steam and sauna time.

January Heat: Saunas, Talks, Laughter

The Bonvital Hotel sets the tone with Sauna Programs on January 16–17, 23–24, and 31, capped by a Night Swim on the 31st. On January 19, journalist Lotti Budai presents a lecture with a book launch. January 21 brings two highlights: Smiling Studio’s Laughter Yoga on the road to health, and the book launch “The Immortality of a Little Pilke.” January 25 features a lecture by Prof. Dr. Emőke Bagdy, while January 28 offers Smiling Studio’s cheerful self‑healing gratitude training. On January 30, “Off‑Season (Holtszezon) – The psychological and criminological aspects of lying” dives deep.

February Moves: Hikes, Balls, Duathlon

On February 1, Hévíz Tours (Hévízi Túrák) leads a Berek Wetlands Day hike—pre‑registration at the Tourinform office. Carnival season lands with the Farsang Ball at Illyés Gyula Primary School (Hévízi Illyés Gyula Általános Iskola) sports hall on February 6 and another at Bonvital on February 7. February 28 doubles up with the Hévíz Buffalo (Hévizibivaly) Duathlon and a Night Swim at Bonvital.

Spring to Summer: Forest Walks, Night Swims

March 20 offers a geobotanical walk in the protected forest around Lake Hévíz (pre‑register at Tourinform). Night Swims at Bonvital return on March 28, April 25, May 30, and June 27.
Organizers reserve the right to change dates and programs.

Pros
+
Family-friendly schedule with kids’ programs, gentle lake swims, hikes, and concerts that suit mixed-age groups
+
The thermal lake of Hévíz is internationally famous, so even first-timers may have heard of it and feel confident planning a visit
+
Hévíz itself is a well-known spa town to foreign visitors, often paired with Budapest or Lake Balaton trips
+
Most events (saunas, night swims, concerts) are easy to enjoy without Hungarian; you can get by with basic English at hotels and Tourinform
+
Getting there is manageable: fly into Budapest, then train/bus to Keszthely and short bus/taxi to Hévíz; driving from Budapest is straightforward on good roads
+
Night Swims and sauna programs offer a distinctive Hungarian spa vibe you won’t find in many U.S. resorts, and the protected-forest walks add a nature angle
+
Compared to similar spa towns in Europe, Hévíz is good value and less crowded than famous Alpine or Italian thermal spots
Cons
Some talks, book launches, and school-hosted balls will be Hungarian-only, limiting depth for non-speakers
Public transit involves at least one transfer; with luggage and kids it can feel slower than a direct airport train found in bigger hubs
Winter programming skews wellness/lectures over big-name entertainment; those seeking blockbuster concerts may be underwhelmed
Dates can change and some activities require pre-registration at Tourinform, which adds planning friction for short stays
