when: 2026.01.16., Friday - 2026.01.17., Saturday

Hévíz rolls into 2026 with a packed calendar built around its world-famous thermal lake, open year-round for dreamy swims among water lilies. Beyond the steaming waters, the town layers in culture, wellness, and a dash of sport—from author evenings and psychology talks to sauna rituals and late-night pool sessions. Expect a lively mix of concerts, theater, kids’ activities, active outdoor programs, plus a community hub with a cultural center, cinema, library, and local museum collection.

Wellness That Glows After Dark

Bonvital Hotel anchors winter weekends with recurring Sauna Program sessions on January 16–17, 23–24, and 31; plus guided meditation on January 30 and multiple Night Bathing dates: January 31, February 28, March 28, April 25, May 30, and June 27. A posture-improving workout is set for January 23.

Books, Minds, and Laughter

On January 19, journalist and author Lotti Budai presents a talk with a book launch. January 21 brings two stops: Mosolygó Stúdió’s Laughter Yoga for better health, and the literary event The Immortality of a Little Pilke. Clinical psychologist Prof. Dr. Emőke Bagdy speaks on January 25, followed by Mosolygó Stúdió’s Cheerful Self-Healing Gratitude Training on January 28. January 30 spotlights Off-Season: The Psychological and Criminological Aspects of Lying.

Nature Walks and Festive Beats

Register via the Tourinform office for a wetland-themed Berek hike on February 1, and a geobotanical walk in the Hévíz Lake Protective Forest on March 20. Carnival season hits with the Farsang Ball at the Hévíz Illyés Gyula Elementary School sports hall on February 6, and a Bonvital Hotel masquerade on February 7. On February 28, the Hévíz Water Buffalo (Hévizi Bivaly) Duathlon tests endurance before another Night Bathing session caps the day.

Organizers reserve the right to change dates and programs.

Pros
+
Family-friendly mix: kids’ activities, museum, cinema, easy-going lake swims, and gentle nature walks make it an all-ages win
+
The thermal lake is internationally famous, so even first-timers will recognize the headline attraction
+
Hévíz is one of Hungary’s best-known spa towns to foreign visitors, so you won’t feel “off the map”
+
No Hungarian needed for soaking, sauna, or Night Bathing; tourist info offices and hotels usually handle English fine
+
Easy access from Budapest by train+bus or shuttle, and driving is straightforward with good roads and parking near spas
+
Night Bathing, sauna rituals, and guided wellness feel special versus typical U.S. hotel spas, at much lower prices
+
Extra layers—talks, concerts, carnival events, and hikes—add culture and local flavor beyond the baths
Cons
Some lectures/workshops may be Hungarian-only, limiting depth if you don’t speak the language
Hévíz isn’t a big-party scene; teens seeking thrill rides may get bored after a day or two
Public transport requires at least one transfer from Budapest and can be slower than renting a car
Dates can shift, so tight planners need backups and flexible accommodation bookings
