Hódmezővásárhely becomes Hungary’s livestock capital from May 14–16, 2026, as the Alföld Livestock and Farmers’ Days (Alföldi Állattenyésztési és Mezőgazda Napok) trade fair and market throws open its gates to professionals and curious visitors alike. Held at the Hód-Mezőgazda Plc. (Hód-Mezőgazda Zrt.) Exhibition Center along Main Road 47 at the 195th kilometer in the 6800 postal district, the event brings together the leading players of eight livestock sectors, alongside crop producers and agri-industry exhibitors linked to animal husbandry. Expect horses, cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, poultry and ornamental poultry, and rabbits in force, with fisheries and hunting also in the mix—plus the machinery, inputs, and innovations that power modern agriculture.

A national showcase with deep roots

Hód-Mezőgazda Plc. pioneered modern animal exhibitions in Hungary and introduced show judging modeled on best-in-class breeding nations. The expansive exhibition grounds are designed to impress, hosting large numbers and varieties of indigenous breeds, almost all modern high-performance types, and rare, special breeding animals that are hard to see elsewhere. The thatched, timber-framed, Hungarian-style show areas set a welcoming tone for the region’s biggest professional agricultural gathering, making it equal parts business, education, and celebration.

Programs built around expertise

The program foregrounds professional value: public show judgings and breeding animal auctions mirror the top tier of the country’s herds at any given moment. They also lay bare market realities, since sector profitability shapes who can afford to exhibit. Some years pigs feel the squeeze, other years cattle; either way, breeders go all out to be part of Hódmezővásárhely’s flagship event. That determination underpins steady growth—so much so that crop machinery linked to livestock operations features more prominently every year.

What’s on show

Breeding animal show judging and demonstrations will spotlight cattle, horses, pigs, sheep, goats, poultry, rabbits, fisheries, and hunting. Dedicated demos for pigs and poultry return. Animal husbandry exhibitors cover housing technology and barn systems; machinery for livestock farms; reproductive biology; veterinary and pharmaceuticals; genetics; agri-informatics; and feed, including supplements, additives, vitamins, premixes, and concentrates.
Crop production rounds out the picture with power machines and implements for tillage, irrigation, and harvesting; seed; nutrients; plant protection; storage, drying, and post-harvest technology. Visitors can also explore an educational trail and the 2023 Soil of the Year display. Beyond that, look for stands on organic farming, environmental protection, financing, professional organizations, chambers, education, research and innovation, insurance, trade press and publishers, food and processing equipment from dairy to meat, quality assurance, workplace safety and clothing, consulting and grant writing, plus integration services.

Family-friendly extras

This is also a day out for families. Expect horse shows, carriage displays, and jumping competitions; dog demonstrations; fun quizzes about animals; hands-on cow milking; a drawing contest; and a cook-off. Outdoor animal showcases offer a close-up look at breeds in action.

Tickets, logistics, and practicalities

General admission is USD 13.50 per person, kids under 6 get in free, and student tickets cost USD 5.40 with a valid student ID. Parking is USD 13.50 per vehicle. The venue is the Hód-Mezőgazda Plc. Exhibition Center, Main Road 47, 195 km, 6800 Hódmezővásárhely. Visitors will find information on schedule details, accommodation, and food and drink options on site and via event channels as the dates approach.

Eight sectors, one meeting point

From horses, cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, poultry and ornamental poultry, and rabbits to fisheries and hunting, plus the full professional ecosystem around livestock and crop production, the country’s agricultural backbone converges here. The guiding principle for organizers remains crystal clear: professionalism. While the structure changes little year to year, final lists of animals and detailed judging times are only fixed in the weeks before opening, since live-animal entries can shift late. Patience is appreciated.

Standards, safety, and respect for animals

The fair spans everything from reproductive biology and animal health to housing tech and feed, as well as seeds, fertilizers, machinery makers and dealers, and the latest techniques and technologies. It also serves as a forum for exchange, where better, modern solutions are thrashed out among peers. Organized again by Hód-Mezőgazda Plc. with the Hungarian Breeders’ Association and member bodies, the 2026 edition will follow current animal health and biosecurity rules. Visitors are asked to approach high-value breeding animals gently and calmly. To keep animals stress-free, the show remains balloon-free, and only leashed, calm, crowd-accustomed dogs should be brought if absolutely necessary.

See you at the 32nd edition

All generations are invited to the 32nd fair from May 14 to 16, 2026, in Hódmezővásárhely—where the heart of Hungarian agriculture beats, and everyone can find something useful, hands-on, and inspiring.
