The Blue-and-Whites’ Glorious Legacy
MTK Budapest Football Club, also known as the Budapest Blue-and-Whites, has inspired football fans for over 100 years. With 23 national championship trophies and 12 Hungarian Cups, MTK holds the second position in Hungary’s all-time rankings. Their home has always been on the site of today’s New Nándor Hidegkuti Stadium (Hidegkuti Nándor Stadion), deep in the heart of Budapest. After more than a century of service, the historic stadium was replaced in 2016 by a new, modern arena accommodating 5,322 people.
The stadium honors Nándor Hidegkuti, legendary MTK striker and star of the world-famous Golden Team. He was part of the squad that claimed silver at the 1954 FIFA World Cup and famously defeated England at Wembley in the 1953 “Match of the Century,” wearing the iconic number 9 shirt. Three other MTK players also played for the Golden Team alongside him.
Modern Marvels and Matchday Luxury
The new stadium hosted its grand opening match in October 2016 against Sporting Club de Portugal, recalling their classic 1964 European Cup Winners’ Cup final. It boasts Central-Eastern Europe’s first GrassMaster hybrid “Desso” pitch, like those at Anfield, Old Trafford, or the San Siro. Its innovative LED lighting system features 214 Schreder-Tungsram lamps, sharing world-first status with Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium for combining LED lighting and hybrid pitch technology.
On two sides and two levels, the stadium offers 33 corporate skyboxes, each accommodating 10–12 guests—making them the perfect spot for matchday experiences and business meetings.
