where: 7400 Kaposvár, Fő utca 65-67.

The Bábszíntér Troupe is gearing up for another year of puppet shows that kids in Kaposvár won’t want to miss, all happening in Vaszary Park at 7400 Kaposvár, Main Street (Fő utca) 65-67. From scary-fun tales to playful matinees, there’s something for every little one starting March 2026.

March Shows Kick Off the Fun

On March 23 (Monday) and 24 (Tuesday) at 2pm, schoolkids’ season ticket shows feature Piroska és a farkas (Little Red Riding Hood) from Griff Bábszínház. This puppet operetta—a mini opera for kids—sings the whole story: Little Red heads to grandma’s through the woods. Alone? Nope, a real wolf tags along. You know what happens next. Grandma too? But the hunter saves the day! Laugh away the scares in this sing-along adventure. Psst, it’s starting!

March 29 (Sunday) at 10am brings the Fiurás játszóház (Fiurás Playhouse), a hands-on play session for families.

April Packs in Family Favorites

April 5 (Sunday) family matinee: 10am Fiurás Playhouse (Fiurás játszóház), then 11am Tudja a manó! (The Devil Knows!) by Kovács Judit.

April 19 (Sunday) another family matinee: 10am Fiurás Playhouse (Fiurás játszóház), 11am Babszem Jankó (Jack and the Beanstalk) from Ziránó Színház.

Schoolkids’ season tickets continue April 20 (Monday), 21 (Tuesday), and 22 (Wednesday) at 2pm for Babszem Jankó by Ziránó Színház.

Kindergarteners get two showings on April 27 (Monday) at 9am and 11am with Medvejáték (Bear Play) from Márkus Zínház, plus April 28 (Tuesday) at 9am and 11am for the same cuddly show. Grab those tickets early!

Pros
+
These puppet shows are a total blast for families, packed with kid-friendly fairy tales and play sessions that keep little ones hooked.
+
Stories like Little Red Riding Hood and Jack and the Beanstalk are universally known, so your kids will get the plot no matter what.
+
Puppet theater is classic family fun worldwide, similar to shows you've seen in the US but with a cool Hungarian vibe.
+
Hands-on Fiurás Playhouse activities let kids play along, making it interactive and memorable.
+
Multiple weekend matinees in March and April fit perfectly into a tourist schedule without school conflicts.
+
Vaszary Park on Main Street sounds like a chill, central spot in a cute Hungarian town.
+
Hungary's trains make it doable—zip from Budapest to Kaposvár in about 2.5 hours by rail, or drive if you rent a car.
Cons
Kaposvár flies under the radar for most US tourists; it's not a big-name spot like Budapest or Prague.
You'll probably need some Hungarian basics since the shows and songs are in Hungarian—visual puppets help, but dialogue might confuse.
Getting there from US flights means landing in Budapest first, then a train or drive; not as simple as hopping on a subway in a major city.
Compared to flashy US puppet extravaganzas like Sesame Street Live or Disney events, this feels more low-key and local.
