Boats, beats, and family fun on the water
Cruising the lake is a daily draw all summer. Regular Keszthely boat trips run July 6–12, July 13–19, July 20–26, July 27–August 2, August 3–9, and August 10–16. Party Boats launch from the harbor on July 10, 17, 24, 31 and August 7, 14—floating discos for the warmest Friday nights. Families can hop the Children’s Boat on July 10, 15, 17, 22, 24, 29, 31 and August 5, 7, 12, 14, where pirates and magicians take over the deck with treasure hunts, tricks, and games.
Hands-on summer camps for kids and teens
Summer Break – Pottery Wheel Camp runs July 6–10, 9:00–12:00 at the Pottery Workshop (Fazekas Műhely), Lehel u. 2. Led by Edit Simon, it introduces wheel throwing through Hungarian folk forms. All materials and tools included; capacity 10–15; age 10+. Registration deadline: May 29. Fee: $51.40 + $0.01 material cost. Concentration and fine motor skills get a workout as kids create and decorate their own pieces.
Summer Break – Drawing Camp follows July 13–17, 9:00–12:00 in the Balaton Theater’s Básti Room with art teacher Tihamér Egyed. Expect upbeat, experience-led sketching indoors and on location: landscapes, still lifes, portraits. Bring what you already have: 20 A3 boards, 10 half sheets of watercolor or pastel card, B2 or B3 pencil, watercolor or pastel set, brushes, board, cloth. Age 6+, 10–15 participants. Fee: $51.40.
Summer Break – Craft Workshop also runs July 13–17, 9:00–12:00 at GKMK Small Club (Kisklub) led by Klára Gosztonyi. Kids decorate canvas totes, string bead and stone bracelets, try decoupage, and even make a board game. Age 6–14, max 12, fee $51.40 + $13.50 materials. Registration deadline: May 29.
Summer Break – Enameling Camp offers two tracks July 27–31 at GKMK Folk Tale Point (NépmesePont) with enamel artist Eszter Pintér. Morning session 9:00–12:00 for ages 8–12; afternoon 13:00–16:00 for 12+. Learn the basics of fired enamel and color, making small objects and jewelry. Fee: $51.40 + $9.50 materials per session.
Summer Break – Clay Camp 2 returns August 3–7, 9:00–12:00 at the Pottery Workshop (Fazekas Műhely) with Edit Simon. Festetics Palace nights and free art
Candlelit Castle: The Four Seasons brings an evening of Vivaldi to the Festetics Palace on July 11, with tickets from $24.30 to $37.80. On August 14, Gergely Rákász’s Mozart – Castle Edition returns to the same Baroque setting, ranging approximately $24.30–$51.10.
Bajzikné Panni’s exhibition Fesztelen festmények (Unbuttoned Paintings) opens July 11 at 17:00 in the Balaton Theater’s Simándy Hall and runs free through August 6. The Bethlen Gábor Retirees’ Club Csillagfürt Choir contributes to the opening program.
Guided nature escapes around Little Balaton (Kis-Balaton)
Week after week, the Little Balaton (Kis-Balaton) Visitor Center leads tours to Diás Island’s István Fekete memorial and the famed Matula Hut—by your own vehicle, golf cart, or by water in canoes. Slots run July 7–12, July 14–19, July 21–26, July 28–August 2, August 4–9, and August 11–16, offering the wetlands’ wildlife and literary lore in one go.
Theater takes the stage in Keszthely
A Pál utcai fiúk (The Paul Street Boys) arrives July 14 at 19:00 in the Balaton Theater. The Pannon Castle Theater casts Ferenc Molnár’s classic as a clash of young adults, heightening the drama with modern music and lyrics. Acoustic stagecraft and the actors’ rhythmic creativity power the evening. Directed by László Vándorfi, with costumes by Júlia Justin and choreography by György Krámer. Tickets $27.10.
On July 21, Veres 1 Theater (Veres 1 Színház) brings Steel Magnolias (Acélmagnóliák) for a night of sharp wit and heart in the lakeside town’s summer lineup.
Beer, wine, and open-air play
The 11th Keszthely Beer Festival taps July 15–19 with a foamy parade of brews. Then July 29–August 2, Zala Wine Sign 2026 – Keszthely Wine Festival (Zalai Borcégér 2026) takes over the Balaton shore for five days dedicated to Zala and Hungarian wines—the annual showcase proving, as the saying goes, that good wine still deserves a fine signboard.
All month, a self-guided outdoor city adventure game promises landmarks plus puzzles. Sessions run July 6–12, July 13–19, July 20–26, July 27–August 2, August 3–9, and August 10–16, turning sightseeing into a friendly competition.
August: big shows, bigger crowds
Sose halunk meg (We’ll Never Die) lands August 4 at 19:00 in the Balaton Theater, Pannon Castle Theater’s musical version of Róbert Koltai’s beloved film, with music by László Dés. It’s a spirited tour through early-1960s Hungary via Uncle Gyuszi (Gyuszi bácsi) and his nephew, staging live the energy of film dramaturgy without screens. Directed by László Vándorfi, with sets by Yvette Alida Kovács, costumes by Júlia Justin, and choreography by György Krámer. Runtime 150 minutes with one intermission. Tickets $24.30.
The season peaks with a three-night end-of-summer concert series at Keszthely City Sports Ground. Tamás Horváth headlines August 17 at 20:30 (gates 17:00; support acts and DJs set the mood).
