A unique equestrian museum has opened at the Fenékpuszta Estate (Fenékpuszta), reviving the golden age of the Festetics family (Festetics család) and their deep connection to horse breeding. Once the site of the Viennese (Bécsi) court’s Spanish Riding School, the property was bought by the Festetics family in 1739 to develop a top-level European stud farm. By the turn of the 19th century, during the era of Count Tasziló Festetics II (gróf Festetics Tasziló II), stables, staff quarters, and a small castle were built. The iconic Pine Avenue (Fenyves allé) allowed the family to ride directly from the main castle to the manor in style, and horse breeding flourished here until 1938.

After 1938, the property was transformed into a flax factory, hemp mill, and farming cooperative. Now, the museum’s interactive exhibits bring back the glory days, exploring the Festetics family’s five generations and their achievements in horse breeding and racing. The exhibition runs in Keszthely (Keszthely), Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., with new programs almost every week from September to December 2025. Visitors can view family portraits upstairs and experience Hungary’s equestrian heritage downstairs.
