
Keszthely rolls out a packed 2026 program from late June through July, with festivals, concerts, theater, film screenings, museum workshops, food events, sports, and plenty of family-friendly fun across multiple venues in the city center and along the lakeside. Ticketed activities range from about $7.70 to $50.40, while many headline concerts are free. Accommodation and dining options cluster around the downtown stages and the promenade, keeping everything walkable.
KeszthelyFest: Three Nights, One Vibrant Downtown
From July 3–5, KeszthelyFest floods the historic core with music, street vibes, and gastro pop-ups. Expect varied acts across the Main Stage at Main Square (Fő tér), the OTP Stage in Pethő Courtyard, the Acoustic Stage on the Promenade (Sétálóutca), and the Amazon Stage at the Amazon House Visitor Center. It’s all about melody, good company, and the kind of summer atmosphere that proves Keszthely isn’t just about the waterfront.
Friday, July 3: Acoustic grooves and late-night beats
Start at 6:00 PM in Pethő Courtyard with (A) Italiana – Cultural-historical excursions in Italy, a free talk-and-music series about Italian space, identity, and urban landscapes, with speakers from the University of Pécs (PTE), Károli University, the University of Szeged (SZTE), Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), and the University of Debrecen. Highlights include Janus Pannonius and Italy, the colors and symbols of the Palio di Siena, the story of Piazza San Marco, the Venice Arsenal from warships to the Biennale, student performances from the György Festetics Music School, an Italia Quiz at 8:15 PM with results at 9:00 PM, plus appearances by Luca Balduccio throughout.
At 7:00 PM, SOLÉRE hits the Amazon Stage. At 8:30 PM, Lóci Játszik takes the Main Stage for a free crowd-pleaser. Also at 8:30 PM, the Lia Szabó Acoustic Trio moves onto the Acoustic Stage on the Promenade. By 10:00 PM, double up: Ryan Donohue & Jumping Matt bring blues energy to the Acoustic Stage, while Levente Fegyverneky Live electrifies the Amazon Stage. Close the night at 11:00 PM with Sterbinszky x MYNEA on the Main Stage—free and built for a downtown dance-off.
Saturday, July 4: From indie textures to reggae fire
Music starts early: 6:00 PM at the Amazon Stage with the Martina Király Trio. At 7:00 PM, the Képtelen Véletlen Trio tunes up on the Acoustic Stage, while Moriones kicks off at 7:00 PM on the Main Stage. At 7:30 PM, Márton Hangácsi takes the OTP Stage. Prime slot: 8:30 PM, Freddie Acoustic Trio at the Amazon Stage. At 9:00 PM, TG & PASCO roll onto the Acoustic Stage. Then the big one: Irie Maffia at 10:00 PM on the Main Stage—free, loud, and summer-defining. Bálint Dankó caps the OTP Stage at 10:00 PM.
Sunday, July 5: Jazz warmth and a showstopping finale
At 6:30 PM, two parallel starters: Áron Bodor – My Quieter Side on the OTP Stage and Andalgó on the Main Stage. At 7:30 PM, choose between the Essense Trio at the Acoustic Stage or the Klára Hajdu Quartet at the Amazon Stage. KeszthelyFest signs off in style at 9:00 PM with Budapest Bár on the Main Stage, while Myra Monoka energizes the OTP Stage at 9:00 PM. All concerts are free.
Middle-earth by the lake: Tolkien Days
Also July 3–5, the Castle Garden (Várkert) transforms into Tolkien territory, daily 5:00–9:00 PM with family programs by the Hungarian Tolkien Society: a costumed photo point, board games, a treasure hunt, Tengwar (Elvish) script lessons, and crafts, plus the “Treasures” (Drágaságok) – Middle-earth Market. Friday offers talks, dance instruction and a táncház, a 7:00 PM choral set from the Balaton Choir, and Celtic instrumentals with Égenföld. Saturday adds the Hungarian Tolkien Society Choir at 6:30 PM and the luminous 9:00 PM Elf Procession (Tünde Vonulás)—a torch and lantern parade from the Castle Garden via Helikon Street and Helikon Park to the pier, where elves symbolically set sail on Lake Balaton. Sunday closes with Saltarello by the Hévíz Quartet at 7:30 PM and instrumental works from the Tolkien films by the Zalai Balaton Lakeshore Concert Wind Orchestra at 8:00 PM.
Workshops, camps, and hands-on creativity
June 29–July 3 features two morning camps: a Pottery Camp at the Pottery Workshop (Fazekas Műhely, Lehel u. 2) guiding participants from simple forms to wheel-thrown pieces across five techniques—coiling, small sculpture, slab building, and decoration. Led by Edit Simon; recommended from age 8; registration closed May 29. Fee: $50.40 plus about $0.01 for materials. In parallel, the Folktale Camp at GKMK Folktale Point (Népmesepont) offers half-day ($50.40 + $8.00 materials) or full-day ($92.80 + $8.00 materials + $3.45 lunch, optional for special diets), with storytelling, team play, and crafts for ages 6–12, led by Adél Tóth (10–15 participants).
July 6–10, the Wheel-Throwing Camp returns at the Pottery Workshop for ages 10+, led by Edit Simon, minimum 10, max 15 participants; fee $50.40 + about $0.01 for materials. July 13–17, choose a Drawing Camp at Balaton Theater (Balaton Színház, Básti Room), open-air sketching of landscapes, still lifes, and portraits for ages 6+, run by art teacher Tihamér Egyed, fee $50.40; bring your own paper, pencils, watercolors or pastels, and brushes—just use what you have. Or join the Craft Workshop at GKMK Small Club (Kisklub) with Klára Gosztonyi (ages 6–14), making decorated tote bags, bead-and-stone bracelets, decoupage, and a DIY board game; fee $50.40 + $13.30 for materials. July 27–31, the Enameling Camp (afternoons, 1:00–4:00 PM) at GKMK Folktale Point introduces colors and techniques for small objects and jewelry, led by enameler Eszter Pintér (ages 12+), fee $50.40 + $9.30 for materials.
On the water and outdoors
All month, hop on Keszthely boat trips and a playful outdoor city sightseeing adventure game that zips you through landmarks. The Little Balaton (Kis-Balaton) Visitor Center offers guided excursions to Diás Island’s István Fekete memorial and the Matula Hut—by your own vehicle, golf cart, or on the water by canoe. Family ships sail July 8, 10, 15, 17, 22, and 24 with pirates, magicians, treasure hunts, and magic shows. Party boats launch July 10, 17, and 24 from the Harbor.
Stage lights and gallery nights
July 11 at Festetics Palace: Castles by Candlelight | The Four Seasons (tickets $23.90). Also July 11, Balaton Theater opens Freewheeling Paintings (Fesztelen festmények), a free exhibition by painter Panni Bajzikné in the Simándy Room, on view through August 6, with the Bethlen Gábor Retirees’ Club’s Csillagfürt Singers contributing to the opening.
July 14 at 7:00 PM, the Pannon Castle Theatre (Pannon Várszínház) brings The Paul Street Boys (A Pál utcai fiúk) to Balaton Theater’s main stage—$26.60. The classic unfolds with tougher dramatic edges, modern music and lyrics, and a percussion-rich, actor-driven soundscape, directed by László Vándorfi with choreography by György Krámer and costumes by Júlia Justin.
July 15–19, the 11th Keszthely Beer Festival pours into town. On July 26, Festetics Palace Park hosts CULT/SCENE/SPACE (KULT/SZÍN/TÉR): Csilla Szentpéteri & Band – “The Aerialist and Me” (“A Légtornász és én”) concert show.
