Budapest’s Hungarian National Gallery (Magyar Nemzeti Galéria) is rolling out a packed kids’ lineup this fall and early winter, with playful tours, hands-on workshops, and themed clubs that blend stories, drama, animation, and a dash of nature. Museum educators keep the energy high and the learning subtle; on request, gallery visits can be topped off with studio sessions where children try manual techniques and explore topics in fresh, tactile ways.

Toddlers in the Gallery – Playtime for the Littlest

“Kisasszonyok és úrfik” takes place on November 4 and November 18, 2025, 16:00–17:00. This month’s toddler session tiptoes into the elegant homes and salons of yesteryear. Expect peeks at how little ladies and young gents lived, dressed, and spent their days long ago. Recommended for ages 2–4, with a maximum of 12 kids; the session runs 60 minutes.

Color It Anew! – Museum Workshop for Kids

On November 5, 12, 19, and 26, 2025, 16:00–17:00, the theater moves into the Gallery. Children step inside artworks and try on different roles. They’ll write and act out stories, and craft core stage essentials across sessions—mask, puppet, headpiece—and even design a stage set. Kings, queens, farmhands, gooseherd girls—yes, it’s all play.
Kids attend independently, without chaperones. After each session, staff escort the group back to the information desk at 17:30–17:40. Meeting point: information desk. Ages 6–12, max 15 participants. Program fee: 2500 HUF (about 6.90 USD). The Creative Studio runs a new theme every month and a different program each time. Sessions don’t build on each other, so you can drop in on any date. Monthly pass available: four sessions for 8500 HUF (about 23.60 USD), down from 10,000 HUF (about 27.80 USD).

Adventure in the Gallery – St. Martin’s Day Fun

November 15, 2025, brings two kid-focused, not-at-all-quiet gallery tours. Who was Saint Martin, and what stories swirl around him? Follow centuries-old legends that even loop toward Saint Stephen. As you roam, altarpieces and paintings seem to spring to life, while folk customs and festive feasts drift through the halls.
10:30–11:15: tour for ages 6–9. Max 20 kids. Duration: 45 minutes. The program is tailored to 6–9-year-olds; please book for an appropriate age so everyone enjoys it. Children should attend with an adult. One child may be accompanied by one adult; two or more children may be accompanied by up to two adults.
11:30–12:15: tour for ages 10–13. Max 20 kids. Duration: 45 minutes. Again, designed specifically for 10–13-year-olds; please book accordingly. Same chaperone policy applies. And yes, you don’t have to be silent here—ask anything, explore the nooks, make it an adventure.

Toddlers – Shooting Stars

On December 2 and December 16, 2025, 16:00–17:00, a quiet winter afternoon lights up with a bright celestial guide. A star gleams in the deep black and leads the little ones into the world of beautiful, centuries-old altars. Eavesdrop on angels’ songs, then take an imaginary stroll through winter landscapes, snow crunching underfoot. White paint reveals its magic as tiny hands explore, and after the gallery roam, it’s time to craft for the holidays.
What do toddlers soak up here? Sensory and observational skills, language and rhythm, manual skills, and social abilities—all leveled up almost without noticing. Ages 2–4, max 12 kids, 60 minutes, and the shared joy of making is the best part: smiles guaranteed.
