Komárom’s star-shaped fortress, the Csillagerőd (Star Fortress), is gearing up for a lively 2026 season packed with outdoor theater, music-infused shows, a comedy or two, and community events that spill well beyond the ramparts. Audiences can expect musicals, comedies, and other music-driven pieces under the open sky—classic summer vibes with a historic backdrop and plenty of local flavor.
Key Dates to Note
Things kick off early in the year. On January 6, the Star Fortress (Csillagerőd) hosts a drawing course, giving aspiring artists a chance to study line, form, and perspective inside one of Komárom’s most evocative spaces. The course repeats on January 20, making room for those who missed the first session or want a second round of instruction. On January 24, the Star Ball (Csillagbál) brings a festive touch—think dressed-up winter sparkle, music, and socializing in a city that loves tradition with a modern twist.
Stay Near the Thermal Waters
Komárom’s lodgings lean into the city’s strength: its famed medicinal waters and year-round spa culture. In a quiet home right by the thermal bath, two separate-entrance studio apartments offer comfort and practical amenities for short or long breaks. At the centrally located Forrás Hotel, the back door opens straight onto the spa park for seamless access; room rates include a buffet breakfast and spa entry, and guests receive guidance on nearby restaurants and countless sports options.
The Hét Vezér Apartment Hotel borders the Komárom Thermal Spa and has its own private entrance to the grounds. Many apartments come with terraces facing sleek, mirror-surfaced pools just 65.6 feet away. With that direct link, every spa facility is 1–2 minutes from your door, and house guests can come and go as they please all day long.
A mile from downtown, Aqua Hotel Komárom sits beside the Brigetio Thermal Bath (Brigetio Gyógyfürdő), welcoming wellness seekers, athletes, and anyone chasing a reset. A buffet breakfast fuels the day, and the Aqua Bar stays open year-round.
Meals, Guesthouses, and Group-Friendly Stays
One local restaurant runs a daily buffet from 11:30 to 21:00 with two soups, 8–10 mains, plus salad and dessert bars in a refreshed, air-conditioned dining room that opens onto a leafy, flowered terrace in summer. Its guesthouse can host up to 12 guests in quiet, clean rooms.
An apartment house offers 2- and 4-bed units with showers, WC, TV, and fridge; a shared kitchen and bathroom are also available, along with a meeting room. Photos are illustrative, as layouts vary.
Hotels with a Mission
Just 4.3 miles from the M1 motorway, Komárom thrives on its natural treasure: healing water and the spa complexes built around it. On a calm side street downtown, Tulipán Hotel has spent the last decade upgrading with a quality-first mindset, serving as an easy launch pad to the Monostor Fortress (Monostori erőd) or across the river to Komárno (Révkomárom) in Slovakia.
Eat, Sleep, and Soak by the Fortress
Vasmacska Restaurant and Guesthouse (Vasmacska Étterem és Panzió) sits by the Hungary–Slovakia border bridge, closest to the Monostor Fortress (Monostori Erőd). Guests can choose from a mix of cultural, tourist, and sporting options. The guesthouse has twenty double rooms, two triple rooms, and two four-bed rooms, all with bathrooms, color TVs, and fridges; apartments add a kitchenette. A thermal bath with healing water is a five-minute walk and runs year-round.
Green Escapes and Riverside Sips
A leisure park a short drive from Komárom in Puskaporosi major spreads out across vast green spaces, ideal for anyone craving rest, recharge, and fun in the heart of nature. Down by the water at the Danube Bastion Port Reception (Dunai Bástya), visitors can grab coffee, cappuccino, tea, mineral water, or soft drinks during official opening hours. From March to October, sit on the terrace in good weather or head indoors if the skies turn.
