Somogyvámos opens the gates of Krishna Valley in 2026 with a year-long lineup of themed programs, guided walks, workshops, and talks that draw visitors into the rhythm of this faith-based eco-community. The valley is Central Europe’s largest and most organized eco-village, where meditation, lectures, and strolls through living spaces reveal the habits, values, and everyday practices of the Hare Krishna devotees who call it home. The setting is a serene, tree-rich basin just 19 miles from Lake Balaton and Kaposvár, dotted with lakes, gardens, and sweeping views across roughly 642 acres.
It starts March 7 with a hands-on cooking workshop focused on Indian street food, promising to bring the sizzling, fragrant bustle of the subcontinent into your own kitchen. On March 8, Women’s Day is celebrated in the valley with a special program themed Respect for Women, framed as Women’s Day, Differently – Experience, Tradition, Love. March 14 is for flavor fanatics: a spice presentation explores aromatic Eastern spices and their health benefits, with a talk and open discussion. On March 21, The Beauty of Gardening lifts the lid on how the community’s horticulture works. And on March 28, Life in Krishna Valley offers a guided walk through the residential area—usually closed to guests—so you can see how people actually live here day to day.
On April 4, Be a Princess! invites you to step out of Western noise and into the timeless calm of the East by trying on a flowing, delicately embroidered silk sari about 197 inches long. Feel the grace, color, and elegance of Indian dress; men get turbans too, so they won’t lag too far behind in the group photo. On April 5, A Monk’s Life asks the big question: why choose monastic life? A day later, on April 6, another Life in Krishna Valley walk guides you through the neighborhoods, followed by The Beauty of Gardening on April 11. April 25 returns to the sensory: a repeat spice presentation delves into scent, flavor, and wellness, again with a talk and conversation.
May 9 takes you inside the Cow Protection Center: you’ll visit the cowshed, the wagon house, the grain-storage cellar, and the vegetable garden. Expect a deep dive into ox-powered agriculture, their unique, Europe-based mill driven by oxen, and how chemical-free organic farming and grain storage work in practice. On May 16, The Beauty of Gardening becomes hands-on sustainability: learn the basics of sustainable gardening, from composting to using greenhouses and polytunnels, and the techniques for healthy, abundant harvests. It’s as much about the joy of gardening and harmony with nature as it is about methods. May 25 offers another chance to discover how horticulture functions across the valley’s seasons.
June 6 is German Day in Krishna Valley (Krishna-völgy), a day tailored for German-speaking visitors. On June 26, The Beauty of Gardening returns for summer. July 3 brings back the spice showcase and health talk. July 10 repeats the sustainable gardening walk with compost tips, greenhouse know-how, and polytunnel practice. And on July 31, Be a Princess! returns—because who hasn’t wanted to be a princess, even just for a few hours?
August 7 revisits the spice experience, while August 14 opens the residential lanes again for Life in Krishna Valley. August 22 highlights horticulture at peak season. On August 28, another guided tour of the Cow Protection Center winds through fields and facilities. September 12 spotlights gardening operations, and September 26 offers a return tour of the cowshed, wagon house, grain cellar, and veggie plots, with the same deep look at ox-powered farming, the one-of-a-kind ox-driven mill, and organic, chemical-free cultivation and storage techniques.
October 3 is a full-throated invitation into a lifestyle many now call alternative. The Lifestyle Walk leads small groups with a guide into the residential zone, normally closed to visitors. You can explore daily routines, living spaces, customs, and even household tricks. Questions are welcome. It’s a chance to meet a way of living that may feel closer to our roots than modern life suggests—and perhaps more useful in a fast, crisis-prone West. October 10 brings back the Be a Princess! wardrobe experience with silk saris and men’s turbans. Later, October 21 and October 31 each offer another Cow Protection Center tour, once more tracing the path from oxen to mill to soil to grain, all within a chemical-free, organic approach that emphasizes stewardship and reverence.
Krishna Valley isn’t just programs—it’s a lived spiritual landscape. Visitors can join service on the farm, share community feasts, and attend morning and evening temple programs. Those craving solitude can wander on long, quiet walks or meditate on the banks of the Yamuna. The Govinda Restaurant serves sumptuous Ayurvedic vegan and vegetarian lunches, drinks, and desserts. The menu leans seasonal, featuring chemical-free vegetables and grains grown right in the valley, rich in real vitamins and minerals. A much-loved highlight is ahimsa dairy—nonviolent milk products from the local cows—appearing on the daily menu. Taste the harvest and you’ll taste the place.
Program dates and content are subject to change. All events take place in Somogyvámos at 38 Main Street (Fő utca 38), 8699.
