Life In Space Lands In Budapest’s Etele Plaza

Life in Space brings NASA-backed VR, simulators, ISS tours, and astronaut gear to Budapest’s Etele Plaza. Family-friendly, hands-on space adventure runs March–May 2026. Book tickets online.
when: 2026. March 10., Tuesday

From March 6, 2026, the world’s leading traveling space exhibition, Life in Space, takes over Etele Plaza at Hadak útja 1 in Budapest’s Újbuda (New Buda) district. It’s in town for just three months, and tickets are available online. The show has already wowed more than 4 million visitors worldwide, and now it’s bringing the cosmos—VR, simulators, iconic spacecraft gear, and a full space station experience—to Hungary’s capital.

Step Inside the ISS, Fly the Shuttle, Spin Like an Astronaut

Visitors can explore the interior of the International Space Station in a stunning VR tour, then take command as a space shuttle captain or strap into the hot seat as an F-18 fighter pilot. The Multi-Axis Trainer delivers that disorienting spin astronauts train for, recreating the tumbling sensation of space. There’s a full-scale reconstruction of the ISS cupola window, a lunar rover, a command cockpit, and an entire space station setup—plus surprises at every turn.

Backed by Space Heavyweights

The exhibition’s partners read like a who’s who of space exploration: NASA, ESA, the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, ALTEC, ASI, and Space Camp. Their combined expertise powers the authentic hardware, faithful reconstructions, and hands-on training systems on display.

Eat Like You’re in Orbit

Curious about food in microgravity? Life in Space unpacks freeze-dried menus, the drinking and dispensing systems aboard stations, and the clever tricks astronauts use to tame floating crumbs and rogue droplets. Learn why traditional cutlery doesn’t make the cut in orbit, how water forms hovering beads, and why a good dinner still matters 250 miles above Earth.

Touch the Moon, Suit Up for a Selfie

Up close, see Apollo-era and international spacesuits (A7LB, EMU, ACES, Sokol), real shuttle heat tiles from Columbia and Buran, everyday station gear like sleeping bags, a space toilet, and workout tools, and the famed Snoopy cap used for astronaut comms. There’s even a genuine lunar meteorite you can touch. Step into an original space capsule, slide into mission control, and snap a selfie in a spacesuit—this is the full space-travel fantasy.

Pros
+
Family-friendly hands-on fun—VR ISS tour, shuttle sim, and Multi-Axis Trainer keep kids, teens, and space nerds happy
+
Big-name credibility (NASA, ESA, Space Camp) means the gear and stories feel legit
+
Internationally well-known topic—space exploration is universal, so you don’t need niche background to enjoy it
+
Location in Budapest’s Etele Plaza is easy for visitors: M4 metro to Kelenföld, trams/buses galore, rideshare and parking options
+
English-friendly vibes likely—global exhibit with guided tours suggests minimal Hungarian needed
+
Great value for a premium experience, with tickets from about $8 to $41 and guides included
+
Compared with U.S. space centers, this packs a lot into one place—ISS walk-through, suits, heat tiles, and a lunar meteorite you can actually touch - Guided-only format might limit free roaming or spontaneous exploring compared to some U.S. museums
Cons
Three-month run means crowds and timed slots—book ahead or risk missing preferred times
Újbuda isn’t a classic tourist core, so it’s less famous to foreigners than downtown Budapest sights
Motion-heavy attractions (Multi-Axis Trainer) can be a no-go for those prone to nausea or with mobility issues
