Giacomo Puccini drew inspiration for both his life and music from women; he was as wild about them as he was about the dramatic stories he created for his operas. Known as a passionate romantic, Puccini famously pursued even married women, sometimes helping them run away. One of his most frequently performed and romantic works, “Madama Butterfly” (Pillangókisasszony), will be staged on June 26 and 28 at the Margaret Island Open-Air Theatre (Margitsziget Szabadtéri Színpad).
Star Performers Under the Leaves
Taking on the tragic role of Cio-Cio San (Cso-cso szan) is internationally renowned soprano Francesca Sassu, while Szabolcs Brickner will perform as Pinkerton. The performance is directed by Teodóra Bán, who also serves as the theatre’s director and artistic leader.
An Unforgettable Summer Evening
What could be more romantic at the end of June than the heartbreaking love story of the young Japanese woman Cio-Cio San (Cso-cso szan) and the American naval officer Pinkerton, all set to Puccini’s gorgeously moving score beneath the lush greenery?
